I'm just now getting around to watching the second season of this. Was not a huge fan of the first season, but the second season is actually quite good and works for me in a way that the first season really didn't. Anson Mount as Pike is fantastic casting and he really shines in the role.

I'm not quite half-way through the second season (or series, as we would tend to say here in the UK) of Discovery, and increasingly finding myself wishing that what we'd had from the outset were the voyages of Christopher Pike.

I've been a fan of Discovery all along, Steven, despite some rough spots, but I know you're certainly not alone there, Steven.

Saw this today and thought it was an interesting perspective:

https://screenrant.com/star-trek-discovery-improve-bad-movie -search-spock/

...and I agree that it works in a broader context.   It's kind of like how TMP gave us a sense of scale of the Enterprise that just wasn't possible on television in the 1960s.

Now, If DISCOVERY can make me better appreciate THE FINAL FRONTIER then I will definifely have to re-evaluate my opinion of the show!

(Sorry, but that's a bunch of retcon nonsense.  But so was STAR TREK III, if you think about it!)

New trailer out for Season 3 now....I regret to say that it left me a little cold compared to how great Season 2 was, not to mention the awesomeness of the new STAR TREK: PICARD trailer that dropped as well.

They've now shown glimpses of three TNG-era races that are apparently going to factor heavily in DISCO's set-far-in-the-Federation-future Season 3.

No spoilers given here.   The curious can seek the information out through other means.

It's.... interesting, to say the least.

I'm gonna say right now how much I hate referring to DISCOVERY as DISCO.  Four more letters really hinders a writer?  Seriously?  Those four extra key strokes slowing ya down?

Could be worse, could be abbreviated to STD!

Yeah!  Down with DISCO!

Obviously the keyboards of the far future are configured to not exclude those Federation members who only have three digits thus making the 'V' key redundant in everyday usage.

edit:

Matt, to be fair there may be some merit to your suggestion so I dug up the contact email for the CBS fan liason and you can let them know how you feel: leslie.moonves@cbs.com.  Make sure to put "RE:STAR TREK DISCOVERY" in captial letters as the subject.

Could be worse, The Enterprise ones could have "Enter"
on them.
