Excessively ambiguous ending aside, it's really, really good and I implore you all to see it.

That's funny; I didn't really see anything ambiguous about the ending. I agree it's a compelling film. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of Yorgos Lanthimos' work so far. I certainly learned more about Queen Anne than I had every known before.

Did you? The filmmakers are freely admitting the piece is not meant as a history lesson.

I confess, half of that knowledge came from researching her afterwards. Prior to this film, however, her reign had been a huge black hole in my knowledge of British history.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but what I know about Queen Anne:

There's a flower named Queen Anne's Lace, and Blackbeard had a ship named Queen Anne's Revenge.

I'm guessing there was nothing remarkable about her reign?

Beautifully visual movie with fine performances, great direction and a lot of devilish cynicism. Oscars will love this. I found it interesting it was something like 94 by critics on Rotten but just 60? by fans. Definitely means Oscar. :p

I have no idea what the audience was expecting. More violence? I mean, it was a quite amusing film.

If they're anything like the audience I saw it with, they were disappointed and a little confused by the ending. Lots of "hunh?" and "what? that's it?" during the closing credits.

I really enjoyed it, much more than than the dour and poorly shot "Mary Queen of Scots".

I finally got to see this yesterday and loved it.  And a bonuis for it being filmed almost entirely in natural light.  It really adds to the look and feel of the film.

Went with no expectations, loved it.
Very funny and elegant film, and three incredible performances.
Second only to "Roma" this year IMHO

Quack!
