Screenwriter of THE PRINCESS BRIDE and BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID, and author of the wonderful book ADVENTURES IN THE SCREEN TRADE has died at 87.

A wonderful and quotable writer whose work means so much to me.

One of my favorites. The novels of THE PRINCESS BRIDE and MAGIC were brilliant, plus his non-fiction ADVENTURES IN THE SCREEN TRADE and WHAT LIE DID I TELL are real eye-openers.

Sad news. One of the very best.

I'll echo what JB said. The Princess Bride was a wonderfully inventive novel and I also enjoyed reading Marathon Man, Adventures in the Screen Trade and Which Lie Did I Tell?

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a classic, of course. I really enjoyed the work he did to adapt Stephen King's Misery -- really, a perfect adaptation.

I own all of his books, including published screenplays.  A legend!

The Criterion Collection version of Princess Bride just went on sale recently too.

There are a couple good long interviews with him on YouTube, I recommend them.  I could listen to him talk all day.  RIP.

Wow, very sad.

All The President's Men has been a top-five movie of mine for ages, and I adore The Princess Bride.  Somehow, I missed the existence of the novel and didn't own a copy until a few seconds ago.

When I first read The Princess Bride it only dawned on me when I was more than halfway through the book that S. Morgenstern was an invention of Goldman's.

The Temple of Gold was required reading for one of my high school literature classes.

Goldman wrote another "S. Morgenstern" book called "The Silent Gondoliers." I remember it being rather charming and fun.
