Thinking of buying this:

The strips were originally published in 1979, within the pages of DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE.

I'm 50% in favour of buying them, 50% against. I haven't always enjoyed the Doctor's comic exploits, but as these are the first, and I am a fan of the Fourth Doctor, I am tempted.

Anyone read them?

Dave Gibbons' art is a delight but I always felt those early Doctor Who Weekly strips were more like watered down 2000AD stories with the Doctor grafted on.

On a related note, I do wish someone would release a high quality graphic novel reprinting the 1970s Jon Pertwee stories from Countdown (and later TV Action) comic.

These were the same stories that appeared in Marvel Premiere and Marvel's 1980s Doctor Who series, if you've seen those.  IDW recently reprinted them as well.

I have read some classic DR WHO strips, but I can't say I enjoyed them. There was a Sixth Doctor strip published in 1987 (anyone remember Frobisher?). I didn't enjoy that, either.

In recent years, I have. Google the name Scott Gray. He has written some great DW strips.

IDW released an oversize hardcover called Doctor Who: The Dave Gibbons Collection.

I have a large edition that I bought many many years ago that had both Absalom Daak: Dalek Killer, as well as the Iron Legion in a single volume.  I think it even came with a 45 of the Absalom Daak theme song? It hasn't turned up in any of my garage spelunking, so I can't confirm.

I got a copy of IDW's Doctor Who Classics Omnibus as a late birthday present, more or less. The Iron Legion is the first story in it.

Going off Jozef's comment, I don't think I've ever read an Absalom Daak story....
