As a native of Los Angeles, I find myself really drawn to any comics set in California.  I recently finished reading (for the first time) the WEREWOLF BY NIGHT series (reprinted in three volumes) and, while it's not the highest quality comic, I enjoyed it and find myself missing reading it and wish there was some good super-hero comic set in L.A., or at least somewhere in California, right now.

Another personal favorite is the original run of SPIDER-WOMAN.  Even though artist Carmine Infantino and the writers got some L.A. details wrong, it still (especially in writer Mark Gruenwald's issues) somehow had the FEEL of L.A. right--somehow sunny and dark at the same time.

It makes me wonder how many fans Marvel had in New York City when the company was on the rise in the 60's.  It's just great to have stories set in your home town!

So, I thought I'd put the word out to the Forum: Can you give me a list of comics set in Los Angeles or California?  I know JB has worked on at least a couple of the biggies--WEST COAST AVENGERS and CHAMPIONS--anything else?

Could be wrong, but pretty sure TRANSFORMERS has been set in California. Not every adventure, necessarily, but some.

One of My Favorite Moments: A writer assigned to SPIDER-WOMAN said he wanted to move her out of LA because there were not enough tall buildings for her to swing from.

Spider-Woman could fly.

The Outsiders and Infinity, Inc. were both set in LA.

I know Godzilla moved his way down from Alaska to meet up with the Champions.
Not sure how long here was there though.

Including some already mentioned...
The Champions
West Coast Avengers
Spider-Woman
Green Lantern
She-Hulk
Wonder Man
Infinity Inc.
The Outsiders
Daredevil and the Black Widow
Crossfire
Maybe the DNAgents?
Zorro was based in California.

Iron Man (Stark) relocated out west for a while.
Fantastic Four was based in Central City, CA, IIRC.
After Superman died, the Last Son of Krypton relocated out west for a while.
There was briefly a Teen Titans West team. And if you agree with "Teen Titans Go!", they're based in San Francisco.

That's all I've got for right now, but if I think of any more.... I'll put 'em in!

Great!  I'd forgotten some of those and never knew about some of the others.

CROSSFIRE and DNAgents are a couple of 80's independents that I skipped, but if they're set in California I might just have to pick them up!  And which OUTSIDERS series was that?  I think I drifted away on the original and missed most of the Alan Davis issues, so those might be worth picking up (but I will not be buying the later versions!).

Eric, it was the 1985 - 1987 "Outsiders" series which was set in LA after Batman left the team in "Batman and the Outsiders".

Marvel moved Moon Knight to LA twice. Once in WCA and then years later in one his solo series.

Eric J., do not read DNAgents and Crossfire only because they are set in California. Read them because they are really good books in a really great series. They have a hint of T.H.U N.D.E.R. Agents and a taste of John Byrne's Next Men, and a lot of story on their own  By all means, get the books (or I believe an omnibus was released), and enjoy them for their own great stories and art.
