Jim: Johnny was already maturing after the Tommy Hanson incident and Alicia didn't have to sit around and be reassuring all of the time. She was finally shining as a world-class artist. I'm not sure how much more anything would have changed had they gotten married.

I have to disagree here. We've seen how marriages in comics change the dynamics of a character (Clark Kent, Peter Parker, Bruce Banner...) -- the "illusion of change" works best (imho) and a married Johnny Storm would have changed the character. There's lots of examples of Johnny "starting to mature" throughout the FF's history, but it's always been possible to take him "Back to the Basics". Reed and Sue are the "married couple" of the FF -- that's not Johnny.
Maybe we need to start a new topic for this subject! :)
