For some October fun, name your Top 5 horror-themed favorites from each decade, go as far back as you're willing & able!  Family-friendly and/or comedies are more than welcome (just no TV entries, save those for another thread in the TV Forum if you want)... no more than 5 per decade, and have fun!

I've only seen two 1920s horror films, so I'll start from the 1930s:

1930s
FRANKENSTEIN
THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN
THE INVISIBLE MAN
THE OLD DARK HOUSE
THE MUMMY

1940s
THE WOLF MAN
THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN
THE BLACK CAT
THE CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE
I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE

1950s
DRACULA
THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES
HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL
CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON
THE FLY

1960s
NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
PSYCHO
WITCHFINDER GENERAL
THE PLAGUE OF THE ZOMBIES
THE GORGON

1970s
HALLOWEEN
THE OMEN
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE
THE WICKER MAN
FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL

1980s
THE CHANGELING
HELLRAISER
A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
CHILD'S PLAY
THE EVIL DEAD

(Damn, I could have included so many more from the 80s!).

1990s
SCREAM
THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS
THE SIXTH SENSE
NIGHTBREED

2000s
THE OTHERS
SAW
FREDDY VS JASON
30 DAYS OF NIGHT
THE DESCENT

2010 - Present
INSIDIOUS
THE STRANGERS
COCKNEYS VS ZOMBIES
THE CONJURING
JIGSAW

If anyone hasn't seen THE OLD DARK HOUSE, rent or buy, forthwith!

FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER FROM HELL might seem an odd choice - would it make many such lists? - but I have enjoyed it every time I've watched it.

My favourite comes first for each decade.

1920s
Nosferatu: A Symphony of Terror (1922)
The Phantom of the Opera (1925)
The Cabinet of Dr Caligari (1920)

Three is all I got here. I really need to see 1920's The Golem...

1930s
Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (1931)
The Invisible Man (1933)
Frankenstein (1931)
Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
Freaks (1932)

1940s
Dead of Night (1945)
The Body Snatcher (1945)
The Mummy's Hand (1940)
The Wolf Man (1940)
House of Dracula (1945)

Struggled to make a decent fist of the 40s. I love Dead of Night, but the rest kind of make it there by default.

1950s
Dracula (1958)
The Thing From Another World (1951)
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956)
The Curse of Frankenstein (1957)
Night of the Demon (1957)

1960s
Rosemary's Baby (1968)
The Haunting (1963)
Psycho (1960)
Village of the Damned (1960)
Dracula Has Risen From the Grave (1968)

1970s
Jaws (1975)
Halloween (1978)
The Omen (1976)
The Exorcist (1973)
From Beyond the Grave (1974)

The 70s was a really strong decade for horror. Several good films left out of this one.

1980s
The Thing (1982)
Psycho II (1983)
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
The Shining (1980)
The Fly (1986)

1990s
Scream (1996)
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Silence of the Lambs (1990)
Tremors (1990)
Stir of Echoes (1999)

2000s
The Ring (2002)
The Others (2001)
Let the Right One In (2008)
The Mist (2007)
The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)

I'm not going to bother with the current decade!

It's fascinating how certain films come up again and again. Myself, Mr Barry, Mr Popa and Mr Martin all have some overlap.

It's not the only one, but I suspect THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN would show up on almost anyone's list.

DEAD OF NIGHT (1945) might have made my list, but I haven't seen it over 20 years.  Loved it when I first saw it, but I also haven't been able to find an affordable, high-grade release yet.  Will have to wait for the Blu-ray someday, I imagine.

It's been many years since I've seen Dead of Night, but I saw it in my teens, a time when my brain was able to set like concrete around those memorable experiences to which it was exposed. I also went to see a play called Ghost Stories in the West End a few years back and it was so clearly inspired by Dead of Night, circular structure and all, that it felt almost like I'd watched it all over again.
