Debuting thirty years ago today:

Okay, it couldn't hold a candle to the original. All the actors in the original THE MUNSTERS are the definitive versions for me. It's a bit hard to equal or top the likes of Fred Gwynne, Yvonne De Carlo and Al Lewis.

But it was okay, I felt. I've certainly seen far worse continuations of vintage comedies, both UK and US. Three seasons and a little over 70 episodes isn't a bad run for a continuation of a much-loved 60s show.

The likes of John Schuck (as Herman) and Lee Meriwether (as Lily) did a commendable job, I feel.

And the colour was quite a novelty!

I doubt I'd buy this show on Blu-ray, but I'd certainly watch it on 'free' TV.

EDIT: Replaced the word "remake" with "continuation".

Fun fact -- we all know Lee Meriwether was Catwoman in the Adam West Batman movie but Jason Marsden, who played Eddie in this went on to play Burt Ward/Robin in that "Back to the Batcave" TV movie (2003) which had Julie Newmar playing herself in the modern-day sequences, but cast Meriwether as a waitress.
