Look at this:

Come on, a punch bag? Really?

I know, as kids, we'll buy anything. Hell, as an adult, I'm such a KISS fan, I'd buy a bag of horse manure with KISS insignia on!

But putting Spock on a punch bag really is stretching the definition of merchandise.

I wish I still had the Phaser Saucer Gun. That thing could really blast those saucers a good distance!

That "flight deck" looks more like the officer's lounge!

I had all of those except the Spock punch bag. (And a couple of the Mego aliens, something I still regret.)

That saucer gun was a beast, Michael! There are probably a couple of the saucers lodged in the second-story rain gutters of my friend Jim's house, down the block from where I grew up. Ah, good times.

Ah. So you own a copy of UNMASKED, then...

I had the walkie-talkies, I mean communicators. Got them for Christmas the year they came out. Wish I still had them.

I had that helmet. The Spock parachute toy was one of a series of licensed parachute toys, as I had the Batman version.

Those punching bag things were really popular in the early 70's for some
reason.

How embarrassed should I be that I instantly recognized the source of the doctored helmet pic?

("The Changeling")

I loved bop bags as a kid. I went to some lengths to get another copy of the Darth Vader one I had way back when. He's currently hanging out in my storage unit, providing impetus for me to fix my living situation and reclaim all of that stuff.

I did have a moral issue with "bopping" heroes in the schnozz just for fun*. It's one thing when you're "fighting" Superman. I don't see Spock standing still for that sort of nonsense.

I also was able to spot "The Changeling" as the source of that pic. Of course, I did recently scout the episode for pics I could photoshop for a cartoon...

* See also "pinatas." Seriously, what did Dora the Explorer ever do to deserve this kind of treatment from her fans? Elmo, on the other hand...

I hope Mochila has a first aid kit in there somewhere among the candy.

`Pinatas` slight thread drift, but i have always felt
uncomfortable with the very idea of them!Yes, those
punch bag things were very popular in the 70`s, i never
had one, or desired one, why punch the good guys?

Brian Rhodes, Unmasked isn`t THAT bad!

Y'know, looking at those toys, I really don't find them bizarre. They are of their time and they were aimed at kids. We forget now that TV tie-in toys were not always meant to be kept pristine in their boxes on shelves in collectors' cabinets, they were meant to be played with. No super accurate model of the Enterprise I could buy as an adult will ever mean as much to me as the Dinky die-cast I used to fly round the garden as a boy and have adventures with.
