A voice unparalleled.

If there ever could be one, Ms. Franklin qualified as the best singer ever.

"Don't you blaspheme in here!"

I just listened to one of her earliest albums with a jazz trio from 1961 and even so young she was amazing, literally one in fifty million (at least).

My god. She epitomizes the word legend. Queen of Soul, indeed.

Legendary. I listen to Think every other day in the gym (the version recorded for the Blues Brothers film).

A remarkable voice. Such talented. She will be missed. "Say A Little Prayer For Me" is a wonderful song.

She beautifully sang "America the Beautiful" at WRESTLEMANIA III (1987), by the way. Yes, we were there for the wrestling, but she added something to the tremendous atmosphere of the Pontiac Silverdome.

Has anyone read any good biographies about her?

I'm sure good biographies on Aretha are out there. If I recall correctly she also put out an autobiography.

It's very, very hard for me to single out my favorite Aretha song, or Aretha vocal performance, but it might be "I Say A Little Prayer." (She took it away from Gladys Knight the same way she took "Respect" away from Otis Redding.) She did an inspired version of "A Change Is Gonna Come" too, though I think Otis "owns" that one, even moreso than Sam Cooke, who did it first.

Nina Simone did this one first, but Aretha certainly put her stamp on it.
