Every time I see The Beyonder, I wish I hadn't.
His design was trying WAY too hard to be cool. Even worse: He's too powerful and can do anything, so he became a "get out of jail free card" for plot lines. As a kid, I wondered how/if Doom was going to get his original body back... but then the Beyonder showed up and made it too easy...
BTW I know the character was forced on people to use in their stories. That must have been a pain.
FF #285 was the only time I could tolerate the character because the story was so good.

I forgot about the Beyonder. I think he's my absolute most disliked character.

Most characters can be saved with a creative team I enjoy. Not him.

I don't like the Beyonder either.
Robbie, what do you like about the Metal Men?

The Beyonder... a retread Korvac in a way... neither did anything for me, bad clothing choices perhaps. From the people who brought you The Disco Dazzler (yeah a little while after the big Disco backlash, so cutting edge there Marvel). Actually Dazzler (#2, Alison Blair or whoever) turned out pretty well as a character, I even bought her comic for past twenty issues!

There's the fact that they each had a distinct personality which pertained to the metal they were representing. Their interactions were often fun (there's a great Batman/Metal Men team-up from THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD).
I much prefer teams that are a unique entity as opposed to being thrown together. Visually, they look cool. And I liked that they have their own individual powers.

My comic reading is kind of frozen in time (other than some JB runs) so I have a smaller window than most to pick from. And from the looks of it I may be thankful.
Torpedo- Seemed like Marvel was really trying to push him on me, It got to where I avoided a comic if he was on the cover. Luckily there wasn't many.
Rick Jones- I dunno maybe it was jealousy. Why did this regular guy get to hang out with Superhero's ?

For a long while I loathed Jessica Jones. I didn't understand the point of the continuing adventures of a failed superhero. But then I saw the Netflix adaptation, I really like the character now. A bit like a female Guy Gardner. Like JB says, there are no bad characters. Just bad writing.

I agree with you, Robbie! Their unique chemical properties informed their powers AND personalities -- I found the whole concept super fun!
As a kid, I was super excited when JB included them in his Action Comics run.
