I'm the reverse of a couple other folks I guess. I never understood the appeal of Longshot. Never had any interest in the character, or derivatives like Shatterstar. Gambit when he first appeared seemed pretty Longshot-ish to me and so made a bad first impression, but especially once he got his own spinoffs, and they fleshed him out more, the character grew on me. Claremont's writing became pretty unreadable to me at a certain point, and none of the new characters he introduced during that period, at Marvel or DC, really clicked with me until a few of them got into other hands.
And now to be really controversial, for whatever reason, the Silver Surfer never clicked with me as a character. I love the FF, and obviously #48-50 is a classic. There are several stories I really enjoyed with the Silver Surfer in them. But even when creators I really enjoy have worked on the Surfer as a solo property, try as I might, I just can't do it. The character just doesn't work for me.
Probably the most major character that never worked for me in comics (movie version is pretty much a different character), is Iron Man. I always thought the armor and the concept was cool. But as a broke kid, there was nothing about Tony Stark that I connected with at all. Even from a wish fulfillment standpoint. Spider-Man I latched onto immediately, but Iron Man was sort of the opposite.
