When I was working with Chris I quickly became aware of what I called "Last Movie He Saw" Syndrome. For "movie" also substitute "book", "TV show", pretty much anything. Chris loved to fold in outside influences, and sometimes I had to be on my guard against them.

For example, in 1979, at the Chicago Comic Con, a group of us were taken to see the sci-fi play WARP, which was having a successful way, way off Broadway run. All very wild and cosmic. As the lights came up at the end, I turned to Joe Staton, who was sitting behind me, and said "Now I know what I'm going to be keeping out of the X-MEN for the next six months!" As if on cue, Chris, on the other side of the theater, stood up and shouted to me "Have I got a story for you!!"

His 'casting" of Michelle Yeoh probably springs from a similar source.

Just checked my calendar, it`s not April 1st, Chris must
be on drugs!

Race and gender swap, keep the disability, but why not
go the whole hog and make `Charly` a lesbian?
