With the Bigsby! Very nice. I have been toying with the idea of investing in a Gretsch archtop, but have managed to hold off so far by reminding myself that I really am not good enough with the guitar I already have!

Gretsch's are great.  I have a Tennessean that just about plays itself.

Do you have the opportunity to play either of them to see how they feel?

Good question. My problem is that I am more Joe Strummer than Eric Clapton (and, in fact, that flatters me), and I am actually more of a Joanna guy. Got a Les Paul, thinking of branching out, and just looking for some general guidance. And probably there is no right answer.

My limited experience with an Ibanez tells me to tell you to get the Fender. I remember not liking the neck very much on the Ibanez. It may be different on this particular model, tho.

Vox is said to be hard to play.

Picked this up last week:

Been having a lot of fun with it. My electrics haven't been getting a look in since.

I don't play guitar, but does anyone here play a Fender Jazzmaster? Tom Verlaine (from the band Television) and Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth made me love how they sound.

My own preference for Fender has always been Strat, largely because it's a simple, straight-ahead kind of guitar and I'm not a good enough player to handle anything more involved.  Two friends - one of whom is an amazing player - have had Jazzmasters they sounded beautiful in their hands... and then I played them and sounded like crap.  So many different pick-up combos and tone settings.  Add that to the low action and fact that I'm mainly a bass player and tend to fret a guitar with too much pressure and I also get a hair sharp.

Really a guitar for people who know what they're doing.

I did finally find a way to put my 12-string to good use with the lead song from my new band - a cover of "So Far Away"*

*The Carole King song, not the Dire Straits one, or, as I was alarmed to learn as the first search result on Google for the title, the (gah) Avenged Sevenfold one.

Video's a bit cheesy (sorry), but sounds good, Dave!
