Some quotes (and the trailers) suggest that 3PO is going to have a larger role than in the two previous films - and possibly than in any of the previous films.  Which I find myself really enthusiastic about.

Well, here's the newest trailer:

On the one hand, the new imagery is fairly eye-rolling.

On the other... that majestic, glorious John Williams music...

Yeah, watching it earlier today I think I literally did roll my eyes. I wish they wouldn't try to leverage the nostalgia so much. It also feels so little ground has actually been covered leading up to this closing part of the latest trilogy... A lot of shots fired, but not much story development beyond this person dies, these people go from here to here, this group attacks this group.

These films, like the prequels, have referenced the OT in many story beats - so TFA obviously had a desert planet and Star Killer Base but TLJ went much further I think  -a training sub section, a flash plant/casino section, a vision section and cinema's longest car chase (which rather than having action was literally in a straight line while a ship naffed off to another planet and back, which appeared to be something the First Order were incapable of. Nothing about that car chase made sense).

Star Wars really needs to break out of the one note story that keeps repeating itself. Cyclical references are one thing, being stuck in a story black hole is another thing entirely.

After two movies it's still maddeningly ambiguous who Rey is and what she has to do with the Skywalker line. For her story to conclude the entire "Skywalker saga" is unsatisfying, to say the least.

I have theories that pertain to exactly who Rey is based on that ad. I now think we will be looking @ a story with similar themes to an existing EU story

That armada appears to be made up of all Imperial I Star Destroyers (Star Wars 1977, Rogue One, and Solo), not the Imperial IIs that showed up in Empire, Return, and Force Awakens...

...Makes me wonder if they just decided to use the same digital model that was built for Rogue One, and not bother upgrading the command tower.

I have to be honest, Bill, I don't think the movie is going to live or die based on that for me. :)

That's fair, Peter.

Considering what Abrams did to another classic starship favorite of mine that ended up being a deal-breaker, you have to pardon my nerd skepticism. ;)

ILM wouldn’t make that mistake - they even get the baffles back in the engine & the conning towers correct.
I’m pretty sure this is a story reason & not a budget reason.

The Emperor is on the poster. Could be he held back an older fleet somewhere. Honestly, I would love to see some actual Imperials rather than these sad baby neo-Nazi First Order types.

There were a bunch of Imperials that made for the outer rim in the Aftermath trilogy.
