Hi, all.

I remember watching and enjoying episodes of DOCTOR WHO on PBS as a kid,
but don't think I've seen anything more than partial episodes here and there
over the years. Jumping back into a DOCTOR WHO television series seems a
bit daunting at this point, but I wouldn't mind reading some good DOCTOR
WHO comics.

Any recommendations?

The original Marvel comic (Doctor Who Weekly) had some pretty good stories and Dave Gibbons/Steve Dillon as artists as well.

I often found the back up stories more interesting than the main stories though.
Abslom Daak Dalek killer and Kronos the Cyberman with a soul were my favourites.

Thanks, James. I'll try to hunt down a few copies.

Marvel ran at least 23 issues of the material James mentions, plus the 4th Doctors first stories printed in Marvel Premiere 57-60.

I used to enjoy the Doctor Who strips that ran in TV Comic and later Countdown back in the 1960s and '70s. They probably wouldn't appeal to an adult audience but they entertained and delighted me when I was a boy.The one that really stands out in my memory was a story where the Daleks captured the 4th Doctor and Sarah then set about duplicating the TARDIS. They must have copied it too well as the chameleon circuits in their TARDIS fleet were all stuck in Police Box mode. I remember wondering why the Daleks needed a fleet of copies as they could have all fit into the Doctor's TARDIS, but it was great fun seeing rows and rows of Police Boxes with Daleks trundling into them. The other thing I enjoyed about those comics was the fact that they told a story over several weeks, with cliff-hanger endings, just like the TV show at the time. Great fun!
