In the comic, didn't Nightcrawler say/offer "That must be why I brought along a beer!"?

I'm impressed! They change the word beer AND redrew the can!

Yep!
And it just occurred to me... Wolverine is smoking in the panel above this one. I guess that wasn’t a problem!

It’s a beer in the comic — the black and white image is from an early 90’s coloring book (at the time it was almost impossible to see JB’s work without color, so I bought the book)

Looks like the coloring book also lost that caption in the upper right corner...

Wait, Cyclops' Organic Steel Armor? I honestly never noticed that gaffe before.

Quality control let Cyclops' organic steel armor through, but changed a beer to cola for a younger age group?
Anyway, beer is good for a man... puts hair on his chest. And in Wolverine's case arms, and legs, and face, and knuckles, and... better stop right there.

I remember the 1980s well. Marvel wouldn't let characters say "damn" or "hell." (DC did.) So I'm not surprised that a beer would be replaced in a reprint by a cola.

For a particularly intense confrontation with Doctor Doom, I'd asked permission to have Sue say "Damn you, Doom!" Permission was granted. Then the book came out, and, hurling herself into battle, Sue cried out "Curse you, Doom!"Cuz, y'know, people talk like that. The change was made without any consultation with me.

Nowadays Marvel allow "damn","hell","bastard","bitch","son of a bitch","goddamn","ass",and sometimes "assh**e" in their T and T+ rated comics. DC allows all of the same words that Marvel does in their T and T+ rated comics as well as "s**t" and "bulls**t".

It had to be frustrating to have things like that approved only to see them not make it to the published book. What a way to treat the talent! (To my ear, the change sounds fine though. It’s sort of like that teen language Stan used to write that didn’t quite sound like any real world teens I knew, but still felt right.)
