Pick 4 opponents for Judge Dredd from DC and Marvel. So, a DC hero, a DC villain, a Marvel hero, and a Marvel villain.

I will probably mention a Dredd character/place or two. If you haven't read any Dredd comics ever, I apologise.

Judge Dredd VS Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)

Jordan ends up in Mega-City One. After distrust from Dredd, the two fight and then work together against the dastardly combination of Sinestro and Judge Death, Death having been "powered up" by Sinestro's ring.

Judge Dredd VS Beast

Hank McCoy ends up in the Cursed Earth, Dredd believing him to be dangerous. Eventually, McCoy works with Dredd to eradicate a virus that could wipe out the entire United States.

Judge Dredd VS Ra's al Ghul

A dying Judge Death crosses over to DC Earth and makes us of Ra's al Ghul's Lazarus Pits. Dredd follows over, but finds Ra's al Ghul a formidable foe.

Judge Dredd VS Ronan the Accuser

What can even a tough cookie like Dredd do against the super-powered and virtually impervious to pain Ronan the Accuser? Not much, but Dredd will fight to the end...

Judge Dredd vs Creeper
Feels like Jack Ryder would be an interesting opponent for Dredd...

Judge Dredd vs Joker (that's probably way too easy)
Again, the cruel insanity of the character would be a strong contrast to the grim, taciturn Dredd

Judge Dredd vs Psylocke
Judge Dredd doesn't always have an easy time around telepaths, and one with ninja skills would be a real problem

Judge Dredd vs the Leader
Fighting a mad-science powered freak? Yes!

Judge Dredd vs. Hawk & Dove

Early in their careers, Joe and Rico Dredd meet up with temporally displaced brothers Hank and Don Hall. Hank loves the future world of Mega-City One seeing it as a justification for the absolute rule of law and harsh punishment. Don, conversely views it and the future's concept of a "Judge," the job their father held, with horror. Meanwhile, Rico falls rung by rung down the ladder into corruption.

Judge Dredd vs. Deathlok

One science-born American super-soldier vs. another in a post-apocalyptic landscape. Whose world are they in? Even they can't be sure at first...

Judge Dredd vs. the New Rulers of Kamandi's Earth A.D.

The Four Dark Judges; Death, Decay, Fear, and Mortis, are unleashed on the animal peoples of Kamandi's world. Feeling this world beneath their direct attentions, the Judges build a series of "Dog-Catchers" and "Zoo-Keepers" to enforce judgement on the living. Kamandi works to restore Brother Eye to try to defeat the invaders. He believes Dredd to be one of those he must kill if he is to save the people of the Earth. As far as Dredd is concerned, an America of Lion-Men, Apes, and Tigers is not the country he signed on to defend. Nevertheless, once the shooting starts, he's going to hold someone accountable for it all.

Judge Dredd vs. Apocalypse

Set in the future, during the time of the 1994 mini-series, The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix, Dredd and Anderson meet up with Slym and Redd to battle the absolute overlord of that timeline. How is it that Apocalypse seemed to know Dredd was coming, and why is there a virtual army of Dredd clones already there to greet him...? Good thing there are a couple of red-headed telepaths on hand to help out.

Judge Dredd vs Magneto
With the help of the Angel Gang, a mysterious mutant
called Magneto gathers together an army of mutants in
the Cursed Earth for an all out attack on the norms of
Mega City One. In a desperate race against time, Dredd
must find the only person who knows anything about him
... an immortal mutant known only as Logan.
All that, and hey - Dredd and Magneto can swap helmets!

Judge Dredd vs Ghost Rider
Ghost Rider emerges from Hell and arrives in Mega City
One in pursuit of an escaped demon. Dredd and Hershey
attempt to put a stop to his destructive mission until
they discover the rogue demon... is Judge Death.

And you know... bikes!

Judge Dredd vs Swamp Thing
Swamp Thing senses a vast turmoil in the Green and
follows the problem to the source.... the future.
He arrives via the last plant left in the world - a pot
plant in the Mega City Museum.
Enraged and disgusted by the genocide on his kind, he
goes berserk spreading over the entire city. Only Dredd
and Anderson stand in the way of complete destruction
until they can figure out what they're dealing with and
how to stop it.

Judge Dredd vs Mister Mxyzptlk
Scientists experimenting in Mega City One accidently
cause a breach into another dimension unleasing Mister
Mxyzptlk.
As the impish trickster causes chaos across the city it
becomes apparent that the other dimension was actually
a prison.. and now various other supervillains led by a
General called Zod seize their chance to escape The
Phantom Zone.

Great ideas, guys!

I read the Dredd/Batman crossover - JUDGMENT IN GOTHAM - for the first time yesterday, originally published in 1991.

It's more action-driven than character-driven. I do like the painted artwork. It perhaps doesn't explore the dichotomy between "letter of the law" Dredd and vigilante Batman in quite as much detail as I would have liked, but it's fairly entertaining; it's great to see Batman and Dredd fight and then team up to battle Scarecrow and Judge Death.

So that did get me thinking about other Dredd encounters.

I've not found a Dredd crossover yet that really works
for me. The (3) Batman crossovers are all fairly light
throwaway action romps.

Last one I read was Dredd/Mars Attacks which I couldn't
even finish reading!
