my wife and I just passed our 28th anniversary (we married as infants) and it so happens we're going to be in Denver shortly. We thought we'd look for a fancy, anniversary type restaurant. And Google isn't much help. Any recommendations?

I always use Yelp for restaurant recommendations when visiting a new
city. Just filter using $$$$ for price.

Where in town are you staying? Any particular tastes or preferences?

thanks Ted. We're staying downtown at the Hilton. There's a snazzy place across the street called Guard and Grace, but for the prices, the menu was pretty underwhelming. A coworker told me about Elway's, worth checking out?

Jim, the Broker used to be the high point of destination dining here in Denver. My former employer used to take visiting clients to Mataam Fez, a Moroccan restaurant with belly dancing and tea service. Both are gone now, as is the much-missed Organ Grinder. Those three used to top most people's recommendations list.
These days I believe the Capital Grille in Larimer Square is considered upscale and enjoyable while the Palace Arms inside the landmark Brown Palace Hotel is known for its elegant atmosphere. Elways, either downtown in the Ritz or at its Cherry Creek location, is well-reviewed as well.

Hey, Jim! Brian is spot-on. Elway's, the Capital Grille, and the Palace Arms are all good choices for a nice dinner downtown. Out of the three, I would probably point you to the Palace Arms simply because it's in the Brown Palace, which is worth a visit by itself.
The Larimer Square area has a pretty wide selection of more specialized restaurants (Mexican, barbecue, German, etc.), if you're looking for something along those lines.

It's been an age since I visited Denver proper, but there was one place downtown that I always liked to visit; The Paramount. Link Don't know what the locals think, but I enjoyed their jambalaya as well as the healthy selection of beer on tap. Although it certainly doesn't meet the criteria of a nice sit down restaurant for an anniversary, I thought I'd toss it out there as an option for casual dining should the need arise.

Another good call, Mr. Reed. The Paramount is a fun place with good food, though it gets crowded for dinner this time of year.
One more fine-dining idea--I've never been to Rioja myself, but it comes very highly recommended:

Ted, I never got a chance to go to the Organ Grinder. Was it everything I've always heard it was?
Matt, the Paramount Cafe is a fun place for a sandwich and a drink. I have been there and I enjoyed it.
