It fooled me into liking Mike Myers more than I usually do. :^)

Tommy Maitland seems like a lot of Tommy Cooper and bits of some English MCs whose names I've forgotten but would know by their face/voice/cheesy grin. I have to admit, he has gotten me curious to try a Jammie Dodger someday, all I usually get are the Tesco Malted Milk biscuits.

I think this has been the most successful Gong Show remake, maybe the only successful remake, even without a Rogie Vaschon Day. The shaving cream song needed new verses though, they really wore that out.

Which doesn't answer my question.

I wonder if they will bring back "Have You Got a Nickel"?

I loved the original show, but still haven't seen an episode of this new version. Checking out clips on YouTube, I can see Mike Myers had trouble hiding some of his most common mannerisms when playing this role.

I doubt that anyone who is familiar with Mike Myers and his mannerisms would be fooled at all.

Of course, I doubt anyone who watches the show is doing so because of him.

This had passed under my radar. Looking at it on youtube, Myers seems strangely reminiscent of Piers Morgan, from what little I've seen. But, yeah, despite the make-up, it simply looks like Mike Myers.

This is actually the third incarnation (not disputing anything you're saying, just want to set the record straight that there have been other iterations).  I worked on the second season of THE GONG SHOW back in the late 90s for the Gameshow Network.

A lot of the entertainment-based sites identified Tommy Maitland as Mike Myers prior to the premiere of the revival despite neither ABC nor Mike Myers confirming until six months later. I'd read any expressions of surprise with a heavy layer of sarcasm.

I watched two episodes the first season. That's two more than I should have.

I tried to watch the second season of this since posting and it is not anywhere near as much fun as the first season was for me at times. I think this must be a season too far. They have changed to add cut-aways to back stage now like apparently a lot of other shows have, shows I hate and don't watch ever, and that adds nothing but means fewer acts. Plus they are giving ten scores to the point where it's ridiculous, or else gonging something like a walrus guy or alien comedian before we even get to see their act at all!

Mike Myers' Shtick is not wearing well, he's run out of lines and is just repeating himself. A big gong... get this off now. But I will say the first season was a lot of fun.

I can imagine he could have fooled some people in the first season but seeing this it's obvious things have gone stale and Myers seems slightly almost uncomfortable, must've needed the money.

I figured it out seeing the first few commercials for the show when it premiered. Didn't draw me in to watch the show either.
