My girlfriend had one just a few weeks back, it was probably caused by a sneeze and was gone within a few days.

Had the same thing happen to me one year after vomiting up my Thanksgiving dinner. It took almost 2 months to fully go away.

I was hoping JB was on his way to having optic blasts.

If my years of involuntarily watching TV medical dramas beside my wife have taught me anything, in my professional opinion they should start you on an IV of D5W with lactated ringers and check you for a subdural hematoma.
But, then again, I'm an accountant.

That's almost how my eye looks right now.... after cataract surgery.
Hopefully yours is nothing serious, JB!

I wish you a full and speedy recovery, JB. It seems you should be fully recovering in no time. But even in the really really worst scenario, trust me on this one... just one eye is still OK. Not easy all the time, but ok.

Lurk a lot, but chiming in as an eye care professional, I see these all the time. Definitely a broken blood vessel, kind of like a bruise on the eyeball. Bill said it correctly, that this is caused by small blood vessels that burst due to some outside influence that can suddenly increase the blood pressure in the area. Sneezing, coughing, vomiting, etc. can all trigger this. They’re usually harmless and resolve within about a week, depending on the severity. From an anatomical perspective, the white part of the eye is covered by several thin, clear layers of tissue through which those vessels run. When the vessels leak, the blood spreads dramatically between those layers, making things appear much worse than they are. What you have there, JB, is 2, maybe 3 drops of blood, which should be gone by the end of the week. These are more common and last longer in people who take blood thinners, so take that into account if that applies. Honestly not worth the trip to the ER if you haven’t gone yet. Just see your optometrist or ophthalmologist so they can make sure nothing is wrong elsewhere in the eye.
Now you just need to think up a good story for when people ask you what happened!

My first thought was, "I slept on it wrong" like happens to me from time to time with my back. JB, that is a rather serious looking "nothing serious", but I suppose the doctors know about these things. I wonder if something like that would cause Scott Summers' aim to be a little off?

When I was diagnosed with a retinal hemorrhage, I kind of yelped, "What?!?!?" but the doctor assured me they weren't a big deal.
I replied, "Maybe there's a less alarming word you could use than hemorrhage."

I hope there's no pain and no impact on your vision, JB. And that it's all cleared up right away.
