...as the Earth passed thru a time dilation that took it 40 years into the Future? :)

John, I’ve been enjoying this thread and these X-men pages so, so much! Thank you for sharing these!
Since this story is taking place before Kitty got her code name, I’m curious to see if it will be Ariel or Sprite or something completely different!

Hmm, maybe inking at a smaller size is a really good idea; it looks perfect! Some inking is so bravura it gets in the way of the reading. Fine for a cover or first splash page, but otherwise you stop so long for looking you've then lost the flow of the pages. I think that's what I like so much about some of the artists like Toth, Kubert, Ditko, Caniff was how consistent their approach over a whole, the comic story as a whole flowing entity. I think I lack some words here to explain but maybe others will know anyway. Great flow to these new pages and the inks.

I think sometimes you can deliberately not explain things and let the reader either make up something for themself or consider multiple possibilities.

Unglablich is 'incredible' more or less, not sure why Nightcrawler said it so much, kind of like Chekov in Star Trek was the designated male screamer? The one that got to me more was 'ein geist!'* I can't tell you how few times I've exclaimed 'a ghost' in my life, possibly never. :^|

* The one appropriate time was when he encountered The Beast who he thought died in #113.

Not sure how you figured that timeline, but if you look back a few pages you'll find Xavier calling her Sprite.

Ah! Thanks! I forgot that I read that scripted page.

My figurings on the timeline were based on your description of this story possibly taking place post the coda of issue #136. Kitty didn’t get her code name until issue #139. I guess I’m mistaken in my understanding.

Love your inks on your pencils, by the way!

Curiously enough, I thought it came out vaguely Austinian, minus the broken lines.

*******

I was wondering if you were actually going for an Austin look to maintain some sort of continuity in looks from one issue to the next.

This story takes place after 137, but it does not precisely align with those issue numbers. The timeline branches rapidly.

As expected, just wonderful. I imagine it has been a long time since you
have inked over your own pencils that were finished to this degree. I’d
be interested to know how you found the experience.

It was... odd. I haven't inked my own full pencils, to the best of my recollection, since early days with the Fantastic Four. And my pencils were very different, then!

As I was inking this segment, I found myself
ruminating on the now notorious "spanking scene", and
got to wondering how Wolverine attempting to spank
Kitty is somehow worse than Le Boeuf actually spanking
Mattie (with a switch, no less!) in TRUE GRIT.

The world is a messed up place!

---

Did you ever have the impression that the Christian
right had gone on witch hunts as bad or as successful
as the extreme left has been doing over the past few
years?

I find it really odd that little things like the
spanking cause concern when at the same time
pornography is more rampant than ever.

"Rampant" pornography is a large part of our shifting sensibilities. We now seek a sexual context for everything, however innocent.

Life has become an ongoing manifestation of Joey Tribiani's ability to make anything sound dirty.
