he is not a politician, which Trump backers like to use as a defense for him
---------
Poor defense. Trump has been a politician for over a year now. And really, there was certainly politicking involved at the level he inhabited in his civilian career.

Not a "typical politician" is a better description. When
he had the GOP, the DNC, Wallstreet, the media,
Hollywood, politicians from other countries, and more
against him, his voters saw this as a good thing.

The question I'd ask(especially after DeNiro's weird outburst) is, what is it with the Left and irrational hostility?

I'd rebut with the question why do you find the Left's objections "irrational"?  When feeling threatened, you lash out.  That's not "irrational".   When you feel that there's a true crisis of conscious, of morality, of basic human decency, is a hostile reaction really all that shocking?  Or should Democrats continue to be cowed, to act polite, to show deference and be meek in an arena increasingly made mad by both Trump and those who prop him up?

Are you saying that any reaction that is emotional from the opposition is one that is "irrational"? Your one-sentence claim against an entire viewpoint using a single two-minute speech at an awards ceremony as evidence that the Left has some sort of "irrational hostility" is bogus on its face. There is hostility, for sure, but "irrational"?  Seriously?  Please.

Being polite didn't save the Canadians from Trump!

The left are hostile? Has no one been listening to Trump since he entered politics? He moved the barometer so far into hostile that the needle was buried & couldn’t move back.

He threw people out, suggested that critics were beaten up, created chants like ‘Lock her up’, used derogatory names about his opponents & was just generally a nasty person. He lies. And lies. And lies. Yesterday’s press conference was nothing but lies.

Back in 2002, Theresa May said that the Conservatives were becoming known as the nasty party. Trump has taken that to a whole new level.

The left are hostile? Give me a break

Those lefty libruls, why hanging is too good for the likes of them nasties! :^D

The silly thing is Trump is a big pudgy wimp as far as I can tell. Swaggers around like such a 'strong man' but mostly he gets other people to fire someone. He kisses ass face-to-face and starts attacking on twitter once the attackee is not around.

"When you feel that there's a true crisis of conscious, of morality, of basic human decency, is a hostile reaction really all that shocking?"

My question was actually rhetorical. I already know full well the Left generally think the Right lack basic human decency. I'm not shocked that someone who sincerely believes opposing views are inherently corrupt, would lash out at a seemingly unrelated event. I just reject the irrational premise fueling the outburst.

"Or should Democrats continue to be cowed, to act polite, to show deference and be meek in an arena increasingly made mad by both Trump and those who prop him up?"

What I'd personally like Democrats to do, is make a case for the virtue of their policies, and offer critical analysis of Trump's agenda. Explain how and why their ideas will serve taxpayers and the world at large better. That would mean dropping their current strategy of smears, innuendo, and character assassination. And present the even greater challenge of explaining how liberalism positively impacts the primary concerns of voting Americans. I won't hold my breath...

Rebecca J.: "He kisses ass face-to-face..."

The physical contortions involved in that are rather daunting, although the description is perfect.

And let's face it... snakes are extremely dexterous and flexible. They can almost kiss their OWN ass... which, in this case, is my prescribed action.

Yeah, if only the Left could bring themselves to show the levels of courtesy and respect The Right showed the last Democratic President.

How could anyone have gone along with Obama's failed policies in the face of such well thought out and clearly presented criticism?

Smears, innuendo & character assassinations.

The Democrats are doing that? Have you been reading Trump’s Tweets?

The very existence of the phrase "Trump's tweets" tells us how messed up it all is. The President of the United States. The most powerful man on Earth. Tweeting.

Whew.  'cause, you know, I was waiting.  I was really worried you were, like, literally holding your breath.  Given the hypocrisy of your statements and the one-sided nature of your ire, I feared for your safety. Good to know where you stand.

President Lincoln, in a series of vitriolic tweets, this morning, dissed Jefferson Davis...

It is hard to believe that entertainers and athletes have not realized yet, that they do not rally people to their political ideology. They just play to the base that is already there and often they fuel the fire for the opposite political stance. It may be more apparent with those on the left but it is true for those on the right too.

Um, Matt Reed - that's kind of below the belt, isn't it? Obviously you disagree with Mark Rand - I do as well - but your latest comment might be a little more about the poster instead of the post. We do want to make people feel welcome to post here, even if others disagree with them, do we not?

I don't rally people to my ideology when I post on Twitter and Facebook either but I am still (as of this moment) allowed to do so as a taxpayer as is every celebrity.
