I dont think anyone has better earned the title citizen of the world than Bourdain.

He did venture into comics among his many other writings (Get Jiro, published by DC) along with some mafia criminal fiction. But whats remarkable is he didn't take the typical chef celebrity route. He didn't endorse or brand himself on knives pots pans spices etc he didn't do the a typical whacky extreme restaurant bar makeover cook off challenge stuff and actually left the Food Network because they were slowly pushing him into that. His book the Cook's Tour which was named after the Food Network show really critiques and criticizes the network and the show.
But while remembered as a chef he was 20 years removed from that. And by his own admission he wasn't even a talented chef.
A unique voice that went from restaurants to author to the Food network to CNN. I doubt we will ever have another guy with such a career.
I always loved that he found his success late in the game at 44. And he never was shy about how he knew it was a last chance and tried like hell not to fuck it up. There's a few Bourdian podcasts floating around the WTF and the Nerdist ones are really good.
Definitely a unique voice that will be missed.
