Was found dead in France of apparent suicide.

Really shocked and saddened to hear this. Really enjoyed his travels.

He accomplished so much and had such a great life, hate
to see it end the way it did.

I know him only from surfing past his show, but 61 is no kind of age.

I really enjoyed his perspectives and insights...whenever I travel to a new (and
sometimes old) location, I pull up relevant episodes of his shows. His
highlights of a region/area always overlapped heavily with my interests and
tastes. I think it would have been fun to chat over a beer with him.

It seemed like he'd reined in his worst demons and appetites, but I'm still somehow not surprised at this sad end.   Such an articulate, unique voice.  He will be missed.

I've heard some affair with a woman named Asia broke up on him and she had photos of herself with her new guy online that were taken off after this news broke.

I'm thinking of the 11 year old daughter he had. That makes me angry. His life was so hard? Bad morals? I probably can't understand. They say you can't though :^|

Depression is a horrible disease, and suicide is an awful result of it - when the world's issues and pressures and just plain PAIN become unendurable, it is an awful end to an agonizing road. Mr. Bourdain was one of two suicides this week... and it's awful.

If you feel anything like that depression - GET HELP. There are people who care, even if it doesn't seem like it. Depression is a blindfold and earplugs, and what you think can very well be wrong.

Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255 Someone will be there to answer and to help.

If everything seems to be at that point... wait twenty-four hours. This decision is irrevocable... so another day won't make things worse, and could make things better.

There is help and there is hope.

He was the exact opposite of a xenophobe and he certainly had a way with a phrase. One of the wittier guys on TV. A heartbreaking loss.

I've avoided finding out how he killed himself or speculations as to why. He had a heroin problem in his 20s. I suspect that no matter how hard you try, that kind of thing never really lets you go, and whatever medication you take to fight it in your 30s and 40s won't necessarily help you in your 60s.
