That's a decent enough trailer considering this movie appears to have nothing whatsoever to do with The Joker.  Warner continues to exceed my expectations and sink even further.

The dark and amazing... Clown Man!

At least we'll get a definitive origin story for the Joker now, which is what the character has always been notably missing*.

Also glad they have him colouring his hair with green dye, because having his hair permanently that way just takes me right out of the realism I crave from these stories.**

Why is Warners so gun shy about making an actual Batman film? The most interesting thing about Gotham City is Batman. The milieu doesn't work without him.

*Yes, I'm being sarcastic.

This is a strange one.

Joaquin Phoenix si a great casting choice IMHO. The trailer looks good, direction and art-wise. Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese are involved. These are all of course very positive things.

Do I think The Joker needs an origin story? Or that a Joker movie makes sense without Batman? Probably not. The makeup? Mmm... not my cup of tea.

BUT...

I like The Joker a lot. I've enjoyed comics with a pirate Joker, a vampire Joker, hero Joker, multiple universes Jokers, future Jokers and tv series and films with Cesar Romero Jokers, Jack Nicholson Jokers and Heath Ledger Jokers (NOT Jared Leto Jokers).

I'm getting the vibe this is an "Elseworlds" movie, and we're not used to that on film. A one-off "artsy" project with very talented artists doing their version of the Joker character. No canon, no continuity.

If it's that (and if it's good obviously) I think I'm up for it.

Explains why the trailer comes across as Taxi Driver starring The Joker.

I usually praise Marvel for keeping superhero movies fresh by channeling them through other genres, but I'm not sure I like what Warner Bros is doing here by making a Joker origin movie as an arthouse psychological thriller. Don't really want either of those in a DC film.

Its interesting to me that somehow the MCU and DCEU have now gone to the position that Marvel and DC Comics were in in the early 60's.  Marvel is all about everything crossing over and fitting together and being one universe.  DC isn't worrying about continuity and each comic/movie just takes place in its own little world.

I kept waiting for it to start being about The Joker.

This looks like the worst thing DC/Warner's done in the last 40 years. And that's saying something.

I think it looks... interesting.  No desire to pay money for an actual movie ticket and theater visit, but if reviews are strong enough, I might rent it with no real apprehension.

Too much talent in front and behind the camera to ignore it completely.  Could be an intriguing surprise, or a total trainwreck, but it doesn't look like an incompetently-made film.

I think I may like this. Not sure if I'll ever watch it, but I'm interested.

So far a whole bunch of "no's", a couple of rentals and that's about it.  Small sampling size to be sure, but not encouraging.

Maybe a step up from the sheer cringe-worthy awfulnes of Jared Leto's Joker in SUICIDE SQUAD, but still no sight of the ACTUAL Joker. He hasn't been since Nolan and Ledger basically re-shaped the entire character. That's what they think people want, so that's what we're going to keep getting.

Eh. It looks pretentious and entirely inappropriate to the character and the genre, but I'm not getting the sense it will be awful in the way that CATWOMAN and BATMAN VS SUPERMAN were.
