When there is a contestant that is 5' 5". 140 lbs and wears glasses I will believe it is no longer judged on physical appearance. Are we to believe Miss America has become a women's only, personality and talent contest?

———

Does your judging a woman’s physical appearance require her to walk around in a swimsuit?

Strangely enough, the only people I know in real life who actually watch women's beauty pageants are, well, women.

Wow, Michael, once again go waaaaaay out of your way to
miss the point.
We are saying that if the new pageants are not based on
looks, we are waiting for a non-conventional beauty to
win, nobody mentioned the swimsuits that are now banned
from the competition.

The world is trying too hard to be gender neutered.

Re beauty pageants? Aren't they, like you know, voluntary? (exceptions are under aged children forced by their parents.)

Re body building? Aren't they voluntary?

If a participant volunteers to enter a competition that is based on physical appearance, isn't that their right...their freedom of choice?

As much as there are those in the world who wish to deny we all look different, nothing will ever change that fact. Being attracted to others or being attractive to others is in our genetic code. It's instinct.

When I was a manager, and a married man, I could understand the STRICT rules at work about not complimenting a woman. Manager's were a target more than co-workers. When you really think about, why would a married man and manager compliment a woman, right?

But dammit, if I thought a woman's look was great, I complimented her anyway. But it was always those who knew me well, it was always tasteful, and we had a pre-existing rapport, and they knew I wasn't hitting on them. Confident women love compliments. I even appreciated when I got compliments too. Women would only go as far as saying "nice color".

I've always found it interesting how much one can get away with if the other is attracted to you. But if the other is not attracted to you, you have to guard yourself so severely to avoid a lawsuit? Talk about a swinging pendulum.

Most people seem to agree that the pageant is pointless. Are you really waiting to see the next winner?

To me, the Miss America Organization’s announcement is about ending the swimsuit competition, which is dumb and pointless. Gretchen Carlson’s comments about not judging physical appearance is spin and really not the focus.

I'm waiting to see if a woman REALLY wins on personality
not looks, although I will not be holding my breath.

I do not think I ever said anything about my judgment of a woman's physical appearance. The evening gown part is ending also. I will be honest I have never watched a beauty pageant. What parts are not dumb and pointless.

I'm reminded of a few decades back when Australian bodybuilder Bev Francis showed up and threw the competition managers into a tizzy. She was so extreme she'd basically turned herself into a man, short of actual surgery. There were those who argued against even letting her compete.

Flash forward a bit, and she was not only competing, but winning. Others were even following her model.

Times change.

Getting kinda tired of society changing
and in the process being told that it's
because I'm too male.

I don’t think society is changing because You are too male, more that
society itself was based too much on a stereotyped idea of masculinity.
There’s room for everyone. Like john says above about a woman
almost turning herself into a man, who is to say the extremes she went
to couldn’t be feminine?
