We did sergeants and lieutenants in other topics. So, favourite senior cops. Just three, please. In the US, captains and above. Not sure about every country, but in the UK, that'll be chief inspector and above. So, right up to Commissioner, Chief Constable, etc.

Here are mine:

Captain Dennis Sheridan (T.J. HOOKER)
Commissioner Frank Reagan (BLUE BLOODS)
Deputy Inspector Knelman (CAGNEY & LACEY)

I enjoyed each and every scene featuring those characters. I'm a huge fan of BLUE BLOODS.

Robbie, I found this a good deal more difficult than your previous police-show character lists!

I'm going to go with...

Capt. Harold Dobey, Starsky & Hutch
Capt. Frank Furillo, Hill Street Blues
Supt. Ted Hastings, Line of Duty

It's nice to see an American list Supt. Hastings. I was wondering if LINE OF DUTY had been sold abroad - and how Americans had felt about it.

Robbie, my sister in Cardiff introduced me to Line of Duty a couple of years ago. All four series are available over here. I count myself a fan. The cast is terrific, especially each season's guest morally questionable coppers (especially Keeley Hawes, a highlight of anything she's in!).

My one complaint about the series as a whole is that [spoilervision] all the villainy ties back, one way or the other, into the One Great Overarching Conspiracy...that worked for the first two years, but carried into three, I thought it began to strain credibility a little. [end spoilervision]. It's a minor complaint, though. I am definitely looking forward to seeing where the show goes next!

With regards to that spoiler, I think they've done well, but it risks becoming unwieldy. If they keep making season, well let's just say I don't want a tenth or eleventh season to tie back into the first!

A sister in Cardiff, eh? I was there recently. A beautiful city and a nice place for her to live. If you haven't been, and you may well have, it's worth a visit!

It is indeed, Robbie! I visited her and the brother-in-law back in 2015, and I hope to get over there again soon, perhaps this fall. I'd been to Cardiff, briefly, once before, but until my last visit I hadn't really seen the sights. It really is a lovely place. (And I got to see the Doctor Who Experience before it closed, too, which I'm glad I did!)

I appreciate others may contribute to the topic, but whilst it's quiet, I'll engage in some thread drift and say that Cardiff is one of 3 places in the UK I would move to.

Great castle, too.

And one pub had the best onions ever. I'm glad you have visited.

Looking at this topic makes me realize that I rarely watch Cop shows anymore.  The last one I followed was Rizzoli and Isles, but there was no senior officer on that show.  So my list includes:
  • Captain Barney Miller (Barney Miller)
  • Captain Frank Furillo (Hill Street Blues)
