The New York Times reports:

 QUOTE:
Early on Tuesday, Ms. Barr posted a comment about Valerie Jarrett, the former adviser to Mr. Obama, that said if “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”

[...]

“Roseanne” will probably finish the 2017-18 television season as the No. 3 rated show, behind two NBC programs: “Sunday Night Football” and “This is Us.” More than 18 million people on average have watched “Roseanne” this season, according to Nielsen’s delayed viewing data.

Will the show be cancelled? Will the show go down in the ratings? Will the show get... a boost?

With ratings across the board as low as they are, I think it'll be around for awhile.  There are for reasons unknown to me (though I have my theories), there are a pretty huge number of Trump supporters in the US.  If even a fraction of them watch Roseanne regularly, it'll be a huge hit for years.  And after the Last Man Standing debacle, I think ABC will be pretty reticent to take action here.

And after the Last Man Standing debacle

——-

Despite Tim Allen’s protestations, if you look at the ratings, you can see why it was canceled. Despite being one of ABC’s highest rated comedies in terms of overall viewers, in terms of the 18-49 demo that advertisers love, it was one of the lower rated shows. The viewers were old. Add to that the fact that ABC didn’t own the show.

I’m curious how it will do on Fox, which is a younger skewing network.

I don't disagree.  The debacle I was referring to was more the bad PR of Tim Allen going to every conservative leading outlet and claiming he was cancelled because of a liberal media conspiracy.

But, based on ABC's current actions, either that wasn't as bad of a PR debacle as I thought, or the people who got upset weren't viewers that mattered to ABC very much.  Or the viewers offended by Roseanne's recent antics were greater in number or more important to ABC's bottom line.

Many, if not most, of Barr’s co-stars, writers, and producers are of a progressive bent (the same goes for Allen and LAST MAN STANDING). They were obviously willing to work with someone who had different politics, but I can see many of them not willing to go back now that Barr has crossed the line. Looks like ROSEANNE is dead for good.

I feel bad for the cast and crew who are now out of work.
They have to suffer for Barr's racist comments. Couldn't
ABC have just replaced Barr?

Roseanne was an executive producer of the show and I believe has an ownership stake in the intellectual property.  So I don't think they could simply fire her and do the show without her, as she'd still be financially connected to the show.

What a dumbass Roseanne is... but I do feel bad for the cast and crew as well. I'm all for JB's suggestion.

Valerie became Valerie's Family became The Hogan Family. No reason this couldn't have become The Conners or The Conner Family, as has been suggested here and elsewhere.

Roseanne had her funny moments, but Dan and Jackie really did the heavy lifting and carried that show. And with the extended cast there would be plenty of new material to fill in the void left in her absence.

Disappointing, this was one of the shows that could still make me laugh out loud. She has always been an outspoken wack job but this was going bring action. Social media is the down fall of fools and possibly civilization.

I am close to being "old" according to the 18-49 age advertisers love. Having more disposable income is a bad thing I guess. It is a backward world when having more people see what you are selling can be seen  negatively.

I also feel sorry for the rest of the cast and crew, though I think ABC did the right thing.

I hope they consider that. I think the rest of the cast is strong enough to carry the show without Roseanne.

Was Valerie Jarrett doing something lately that caused
Rosseanne to go off on her? What made her single VJ out
and not Obama or whoever else?

The difference being that Harper was an actor hired to star in that series.  Roseanne was co-creator of her series and it was based in part on her standup act, and it seems likely she must have an ownership stake in the intellectual property.  So they presumably could not just fire her and do the show without her... there would have to be negotiations and buyout involved, and she would have to be willing to negotiate.

Roseanne is part of the hardcore tinfoil-hat conspiracy theorist cadre, who are constantly digging up "new" information and turning anyone involved in the Obama administration into shadowy figures involved in the fictional "deep state."  In this case, her tweet was a response to someone randomly mentioning Jarrett in response to some BS conspiracy screed.  You can view it here.

So the short answer is nothing in particular made her go off on Jarrett.

I never saw the original show more than once and didn't like it (cranky kids and parents), I do remember how she sang the U.S. anthem really badly because that made the news. Then I got roped into watching the new show premiere and thought it was actually pretty funny and balanced. Seems like second or third chances or whatever for some people are in vain though... Maybe she should be rebranded as Blowsanne (apologies to Judy Tenuta) as she seems to keep blowing it!

I thought maybe she was playing a character, like Trump played being a smart businessman on tv, but she was actually playing funnier and more balanced than she really is thanks to the writers.

Seems crazy that she would suicide like that, she has to
know it would cause a backlash. Maybe she thought she
could shoot near the target and get away with it, or
maybe she intentionally tanked her show.

It seems like a week or so ago ABC announced there would
be less politics in season 2 and she said there would be
more, if I recall correctly. So maybe they were not
getting along and she just wanted to get fired.

I sincerely doubt it was intentional.  A lot of people still aren’t aware of the fact that anything that goes on the internet can be seen by everyone, will be there forever, and can therefore come back to haunt you.

Unfortunately, as quick as the public is to condemn outrageous behavior, they are just as quick to forget it.

Don Imus is still doing radio and Mel Gibson is still making movies, so I wouldn't be surprised if another network picked up the show once the uproar has died down.
