Unfortunately, as quick as the public is to condemn
outrageous behavior, they are just as quick to forget
it.

Don Imus is still doing radio and Mel Gibson is still
making movies, so I wouldn't be surprised if another
network picked up the show once the uproar has died
down.

---
Forgive instead of forget maybe. I do believe in 2nd
chances. People can have a dark part of their
character but can have a lot of good in them too.

I would bet you money that if Valerie Jarrett was
drowning in a pool, Roseanne would try to save her.
It's too easy to get pissed at people on the other
side of the TV or internet, but when they are in the
same room with you, suddenly the humanity comes out.

From what I followed it seems this was her second, or even third, chance. There were people saying she shouldn't have been given this latest chance after blowing things in the past in various ways, and at least one other time she was saying ugly racist stuff.

Saucermen... lay those evolvo-rays on us again! We seem to really need it these days!

I'm not a follower of hers and never watched the show,
so I am unaware of anything in the past. The
impression I got from her old series, the few times i
did view it for a bit while turning channels, was that
it was very liberal.

Was it a better time when we did not know about the failings of character or the beliefs of those entertaining us. There is no escape from real life anymore, everything is tainted by too much information.

Wow, not only has she lost her new show, her old series is being pulled
from Hulu and Viacom owned properties.

That is not surprising. I think reruns of Dukes of Hazzard were taken off the air because of the General Lee having the Confederate Battle Flag on the roof.

I may be a conservative, but I thought what Roseanne tweeted was horrible.  There is no excuse for any white person to ever say anything even close to that about a black person.

That said, I wish there was some way to have public people who do horrible things to make up for them.  It's sad that millions of fans and dozens (hundreds?) of the show's employees have to suffer for some stupid thing the one person in charge says or does in an idiotic moment.

I wonder if she had come out and immediately pledged her next season's salary to a starving children charity, the show might not have needed to be cancelled.  A probation of sorts.

Was Valerie Jarrett doing something lately that caused
Rosseanne to go off on her? What made her single VJ out
and not Obama or whoever else?

What would anybody ever be doing to warrant such a vicious, racist slur? Nothing caused Roseanne to go off except Roseanne.

I would bet you money that if Valerie Jarrett was
drowning in a pool, Roseanne would try to save her.

I'm pretty sure Valerie Jarrett would never be caught dead anywhere near a pool Roseanne was occupying, and this fantasy scenario has absolutely no relevance to what Roseanne did.

CNN's media analyst said a couple of hundred people were
involved in the show. I'm sure many of them will land on
their feet, but still sucks losing a paycheck.

I would be interested in what the people she worked with really think about her. I know they will condemn the statement but will they confirm that that is how she is as a person. Some seem very "liberal" in their ideas, did they just work with her for the paycheck?

Wanda Sykes gets much respect for leaving the show BEFORE ABC announced the cancellation.

I'm sure people Roseanne worked had their issues with her. Happens in many workplaces I'm sure. Still, when you're working it's sometimes easy to brush aside hot topic conversations and stick to the positive stuff. I'm sure some just focused on doing their jobs rather than sit around judging her behavior.

She's quit Twitter before.  And come back and she's already back on this morning.  Blaming it on an ambien haze.  I've been on ambien before but didn't suddenly tweet nasty things.  If you saw some of her other tweets yesterday, accusing George Soros of being a Nazi and attacking Chelsea Clinton, Barr was on a tear.

Now, if you look down this thread, you may find the one I started about the show when the reboot was about to premiere.  I am a huge "Roseanne" fan.  I have been since the original series aired.  I think it's one of the best sitcoms of all time and has aged very well.  (The two-parter when Jackie was a victim of domestic abuse, and how the revelation unspools from another storyline, transcends "very special episode" status)  But I knew Barr was not the same as she was and this is really upsetting.

óó-

Roseanne noted in one of her apologies that her show writers are all liberal. (Tim Allen has said the same thing about his writers for LMS.) The original series was fairly progressive socially, and while I havenít watched the new series, from what Iíve read of the new series, that hasnít really changed.

She's moved on from her ambien defense and is now slamming her costars.  The people she has known since they were children, very, very young children.

I don't even know what I am as far as being made to define myself as liberal or conservative. I suspect most people are liberal on some things but more conservative on some others, without buying any across the board line of the moment hopefully. I sure don't see some people claiming to be conservative as very conservative people at all, like Roseanne here. I do have a hard time feeling sorry for some very privileged people when they get into lashing out and blaming others no matter how talented they may unarguably be. It seems a lot of folks at the disadvantaged end of things get no second chances and can find life treating them extremely harshly. A lot of these supposed self-made 'bootstraps' people turn out in my experience to have had all manner of advantages and winds beneath their wings, and the ones that haven't usually are not so loud at blowing their own horn and are genuinely admirable people. Rosanne may well be a genuine bootstraps person to some extent, but for what if this is how she uses her elevated position she's attained? It's not helping anybody or even something intelligent for her to share. Like I write earlier, Blowsanne, she seems to keep blowing it. You've got money lady, go and get some help like so many no longer with us now can't (Chris Farley or Tom Petty or whoever).

We already went through this story of hers once before, of rising to the top-the show made it to Number 1 by its second season and then tumbling off her perch as people quickly grew tired of her off-screen antics such that by the time she hosted SNL during the third season, she was joking that you meet the same people on your way down as you do on your way up.  The show stayed very god until around its seventh season, however.

My favorite non-"Roseanne" the show moment will be when she hosted SNL the following year and - you may all know where I am going with this - we got the famous "Coffee Talk" sketch with Mike Myers, Madonna, Roseanne and completely surprise guest appearance from Barbra Streisand.  Boy, were the three of them taken by surprise.

Trump's tweeting about Bob Iger & ABC for "Roseanne" double standard while Conservatives point fingers at Keith Olbermann, MSNBC's Joy Reid and Bill Maher, who have remained employed despite "provocative comments" made in the past.

I can go on about how this ISN'T a double standard but I'll leave it like this... these folk don't work for ABC/Disney.

I hate when these issues become 'tit for tat' between these two parties.

Ambien's maker responds to Roseanne's claim that "Ambien made her do it":

People of all races, religions and nationalities work at Sanofi every day to improve the lives of people around the world. While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication.
