Next time someone makes a crack about people not recognizing Supeman as Clark Kent, show them this.

I suspect Zooey Deschanel was not the same age in both photos.

Though I do not disagree that Superman could disguise himself with glasses, this isn't great proof.

1. There's a good number of years between these photos
2. Most pertinent of all, we wouldn't be discussing this if Zooey wasn't  recognised as Zooey in photo 2 by the mass media. She was.
3. Superman doesn't use makeup. Zooey does.

In that case, ignore point 1 and go straight to point 2.

As she was likely at a red carpet event, of course she
would be recognised by the mass media. If she was walking
down a street in normal clothes looking like she does in
picture two, i seriously doubt she`d be recognised. As
for makeup, apart from a slightly different shade of
lipstick there`s not much difference in what she`s
wearing.

I think it would be a lot easier for a woman to hide her identity than a man.  Sorry, there's just more variety possible with a man's face--facial hair, hairline, size and placement of features, etc.--distinct features an show up even through a mask.  On the other hand, a classically attractive woman's face can more easily be altered by a change in hairstyle (or wig), glasses, and especially make-up, which can change the eyes, cheekbones, skin color, and so on.

An important consideration is context.
No one would suspect your co-worker at the Daily Planet, who you've known for a while now, to be the world famous super powered alien SUPERMAN. Even if he has dark hair and a good build.

A still image can be deceptive. A Photo of Superman and Clark Kent could certainly look different. As show above but meeting the same person in person, wearing two different looks huge difference.

I always imagined that the world saw that Superman didn't wear a mask and that being an "alien" had no need of another identity. So there would be a long list of 'lookalikes'. Clark just bares a striking resemblance!

But no, I wouldn't use a photo as an example of fact, too many influencing factors we aren't aware of.

-D

EDIT-

I should have said. I do appreciate -how- vastly different the two images are.
Here are two from the same photo shoot. One has enough of her (on screen) personality/character in it that we might recognise who is under that make up and under that lighting, the other looks like a different person.

It was Christopher Reeve who made the whole thing work. His Clark persona was totally different to how he was as Superman. (And. yes, of course  that was for the viewer's benefit and in 'real life' would have been too over-the-top.)

Dean Cain and Henry Cavill didn't play Clark like that, making the non-recognising of Kent as Superman a lot less plausible.

Another consideration... both of those pictures are Zoey D. How hard would it be if you worked with Clark and know him to be a reporter, somewhat mild, whose schedule you pretty well know - and Superman, whose hair, face (glasses-less), and clothing are entirely different. Especially when you'd have no reason to think they might be the same person.

Do you look at your co-workers, or TV minor personalities, and say, "Hey, that newscaster - with different hairdo and makeup and glasses, could be that actress I saw in 'Streetcar Named Desire'?" I think that might be the same situation. (And from the number of times I heard "Eric? That was YOU?!?" from friends and co-workers, I can say that it truly is a thing.)

Steve - I for one would have never recognized Zoey with out her classic look f glasses and bangs. Huge difference.....wow.

I'm giggling at how many need to proclaim "I'm too smart to be fooled by Clark/Superman". Well duh....he is a fictional character in a fictional environment.

I never stop to be amazed at how beautiful an actress can be when all done up, and how ordinary they look in other photos.

It took me most my lifetime for me to finally understand that Hollywood stars, especially women, wear so much make-up that it's like dressing up for Halloween every single day.
