Mr Byrne, at any point in your life, have you collected or been interested in trading cards, superhero or otherwise?

When I was between 10 and 13, there were a number of trading card series that I collected. There was an American Civil War set, a Pirates set (with some illustrated by Kurt Schaeffenberger), and some humorous sets, like Funny Valentines.

Thank you for the answer! The Pirates set sounds fun!
I will say this: when I go to conventions, entire collections of cards are sold by dealers, but as a kid, and I didn't buy too many, the thrill was in the hunt; the thrill was in swapping with schoolfriends; and the thrill was in walking out of the newsagent and experiencing a mix of joy ("Yay, I needed this one!") and frustration ("Oh no, not that one again!").

I used to collect Garbage Pail Kids cards. Still wish I had them.

I still like Star Trek TOS trading card sets and will buy a set from eBay occasionally. I only buy sets that look interesting and appealing to me.

I was recently looking for the 1989 John Byrne Card Set but all I can find is an uncut card sheet on eBay.

My aunt had Beatles cards, and my brother seemed to have a lot of hockey cards. I remember only buying 'Wacky Packages' stickers that were the same size as cards, but I saw lot of others around... some kind of monster baseball cartoon cars by Jack Davis stands out. I bought a pile of random 1966 Batman painting-style cards I ran across at a convention once but traded them off for something else before too long. Didn't know there were John Byrne cards.

I see someone has multiple copies of the uncut sheet right now for $8.95 u.s., sounds like a good deal for those that are into it, and the b&w art on the back looks really nice. Postage to Canada puts me out of even thinking about it. If you have access to a large paper cutter too...

Would the Wacky Package things be stickers with parodies of well known products? Eg:-Crust toothpaste?

A set pops up on Ebay every once in a while.
In "completed auctions", I see a set recently sold for less than $15.

Yes. I remember a few like a paperback cover for Gums had a shark with no teeth, and a U.S. cleaning product called 'Janitor In A Drum' was parodied by showing a janitor inside it drowned. Art Spiegelman of Raw/Maus worked on some I found out later, it seemed like they kept making them for years. We used to stick them all over everything and drive adults mad.
