My daughter and I watched the second episode of "The Rookie" last evening. I couldn't find the premiere on the DVR harddrive. We both enjoyed Nathan Fillion and his character, but found most of the other characters, unlikeable, most came across as dumb or mean. Tough to see us getting into it, but...

I don't care for Melissa O'Neil being cast as a
character named Lucy Chen. This is the one playing the
girlfriend to John Nolan (Fillion's character). She is
half Chinese and half Irish in real life, but she just
doesn't look Chinese to me. They should have changed
the name or found someone more Asian looking. It is
unnecessarily confusing.

Errr...?

Also, people of mixed ethnicities exist and sometimes the father is Asian, so the kid gets an Asian surname. What's confusing about that?

She looks more Hispanic or Filipino than Chinese to me. Even when
she was on Dark Matter, I had no idea she was Chinese.

Heidi is watching GOD FRIENDED ME, ALL-AMERICAN and MAGNUM, P.I. - If she watches them while I'm asleep (we DVR a lot of shows), it's fine with me. I'll watch them if she puts them on, but no skin off my nose if I miss them.

She's started watching LEGACIES, because it is a VAMPIRE DIARIES spin-off. So far, I like it.

I gave up on CHARMED after two episodes. It took Heidi five.

THE CONNERS is hilarious. I do not miss Roseanne at all.
And MURPHY BROWN is just as good as it originally was.

THE COOL KIDS is also hilarious.

We both love NEW AMSTERDAM and THE ROOKIE.  FBI is also good, but Heidi likes it a bit more than I do.

MANIFEST is good, but has had a couple of slow, skippable episodes.

LAST MAN STANDING made one huge mistake with it being picked up by FOX: The new Mandy is awful. I know it wasn't possible to bring the original actress back, but replacing a short brunette with a tall, skinny blonde was not a good idea. (It's not just a physical thing: the new actress isn't that great.)

Looks like this season is a bust for me.
The only show I've seen more than two episodes of is THE COOL KIDS,
mainly because David Allen Grier has always hit my funny bone really hard.

Well, I've completely given up on both MANIFEST and FBI.

With MANIFEST, it was slowing down waaaaay too much for me and I really do not like the lead actress in the show.  Casting her as a cop is just way too unbelievable, plus she's a horrible actress.

With FBI, I noticed I was doing other things when I had it on TV and that I wasn't even watching it.  So why bother?

Shockingly, MAGNUM PI isn't too bad, but it's still not Magnum....  I do like the characters though.

Watch the 3rd episode of The Rookie last evening. I enjoyed it more than the previous episode, but only a minor improvement. Spotted Nathan Fillion as Executive Producer in the opening credits. It should motived him to put together a good show.

THE ROOKIE is very good, but they need to move away from the "stereotypical TV cops" that they have on there as their training officers.  You can almost feel the boxes being ticked off by the writers in each episode in terms of how they'll act or react to their rookie partner.

Watching mainifest  I like the story better than the cast. (manifest).

and New Amsterdam.Ryan Eggold is better than expected after finding him so-so in The Blacklist. and the cast is wonderful.  (tho I see ratings are down.)
Returned to Chicago night after a season away. Nice to know I didn't miss much.

Yay it's almost Orville time!

Of the Chicago shows, Heidi and I watch FIRE, I watch P.D. and Heidi watches it sometimes, and we only watch MED if its a crossover event.

If we have any DOCTOR WHO fans who don't watch NEW AMSTERDAM, Freema Agyeman, who played Martha Jones during the 10th Doctor era, is on it.
