I meant to mention Sapphire And Steel, very odd a bit like The Prisoner where you're not always sure of what is happening, but it's done so well.

I grew up with the Olivier narrated The World At War, it's kind of branded on my brain really. For more recent doc series there have been some Open University series I enjoyed a lot like Landscape Mysteries. Also I usually like Coast, even watching the antipodean ones. Not so mad about the various celebrity travelogue ones but Fry, Palin, Suggs (of Madness) and Lumley are pretty good tele-companions. :^)

I suspect La Maison D'Hector was probably a lot more like Hector's House than Le Mančge Enchanté was like the Magic Roundabout... we could call it a co-production of sorts? I wonder why nobody ever translated the hot-air balloon travelling mice Nic Et Pic from French to English, I used to see it on the French channel here and wish I could really follow it for more than a word or phrase. I always suspected Joanna L. hadn't been the voice of that cat even though she is mad for felines.

I've really liked the Inspector George Gently episodes I've seen set in the late '60s, I hope I can find them on air again. I even have a couple sets of Z Cars (1962 and 1978 seasons) and enjoy them well enough, I'm partial to police drama or police detectives; it always seems a bit odd the amateur slueths or even Sherlock Holmes happening on all their many cases where as they realistically would come to the police. I really enjoyed the original The Professionals too, the one with Gordon Jackson, although it is a bit Starsky & Hutch.

CRACKER was a, well, cracker of a series.

Robbie Coltrane playing a psychologist helping the police track down murderers. Cracker himself had so many hang ups but the plots & characters were brilliant. Jimmy McGovern writing @ his best

Cracker is a hall-of-famer for certain. Loved Coltrane as Dr. Johnson the dictionary compiler in Blackadder III, possibly my favorite episode of all. "Sausage? Sausage?! Oh blast your eyes!"

French And Saunders was brilliant in places, and the house band never failed to crack me up! Young Ones would have to be in the great hall too.

For me:

Are You Being Served?

Mr. Bean

The Benny Hill Show (!) A guilty pleasure and obviously a relic of it's time. Still makes me laugh

Downton Abbey - first few seasons were the best but even the later ones had a few nice moments

A Bit of Frye and Laurie

Brum - kids LOVED it when they were little

Thunderbirds

Man, how could I forget about DEATH IN PARADISE??  I almost dropped it after Ben Miller left, but stuck with it.  I'm impatiently waiting for seasons 6 & 7 to show up on Netflix!

Bill, I love ONLY CONNECT.
Did you see the one a few years ago where the first clue was ‘hit by cosmic rays’? I got that connection straight away - my first 5 point answer.
POINTLESS is pretty good too. Tuvalu has become a battle cry in our household

Morse Code in music!
Pointless is another must see, if i`m on a late shift
it`s set to record on the Sky box!

I keep reading and hearing people comparing BLACK MIRROR to THE TWILIGHT ZONE, but it reminds me more of the 90s version of THE OUTER LIMITS.

I should say I am also addicted to Pointless. Whenever I am back in the UK, I make it my business to be in front of a TV set when it's on.

It seems all the Brit`s love Pointless, i think it`s
because you can play along at home testing your own
knowledge on subjects close to your heart, often beating
the contestants.Recently the final had Classic Rock
albums chosen by the finalists, you had to name any
album by Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden or AC/DC, i knew about 6
Pointless answers, but the contestants didn`t.

`Just got about 5 Pointless answers on Pointless
concerning Showaddywaddy and Bay City Rollers
songs,should i be proud or ashamed?` ;-)

LOL, Bill.

Pointless also seems to have radically improved the British viewing public's knowledge of the periodic table.

True, my only gripe is it seems that, whenever two males
reach the final they always pick the `Sport` category!

I'm not a big British TV watcher but Absolutely Fabulous used to make me laugh soooo hard!  Also, back in the old days I used to really enjoy Prisoner: Cell Block H.  Oh wait, that was Australia.

Pointless is great fun. I got a reduculous number of pointless answers when the question was name Peter Gabriel albums.

It’s always good when you get the single pointless answer in a category as well. I remember doing that when they asked for characters who appeared in all three original Star Wars movies. I would have lost serious credibility if I hadn’t got that one. In fact, I managed to make everyone which was expected of me

Forgot about those oldsters... Waiting For God, One Foot In The Grave... and Mulberry were all faves here!

I think the only games show I know much of is Countdown, U.K. shows of this kind just don't seem to get shown at all over here, maybe because people would win in pounds and not dollars. I would be curious to see some vintage Golden Shot though.

We have had various Aus programmes over the years, at least from Skippy The Bush Kangaroo onward... lots of Reg Grundy productions for some reason. I watched the first year or so of Home And Away.

Occurs to me to add LAW & ORDER UK. Fun in that it reuses American scripts, but "translates" them for the British system.
