Based on the trailer, I'd say the point has been missed.

.............Altho, Olivia Munn......

She was the best thing about X-Men Apocalypse.

From the director of Iron Man 3... Who also acted in the original Predator.

I found the new trailer to be a shockingly generic-looking action thriller... that just happened to guest-star a Predator.

I actually found the trailer kind of confusing. And felt a bit like 90s TV.

Didn't like the trailer at all.

But I'm a Shane Black fan, I'll give him (some) leeway

Shane Black did more than IM 3.  That's studio advertising capitalizing on a film for Marvel that made a bajillion dollars.  Since then, he wrote and directed the criminally underrated 2016 film THE NICE GUYS.  He was also the creator of the LETHAL WEAPON franchise.  The guy has some chops beyond the putrid third installment of IRON MAN.

Not a great trailer, but the film is a ways out.  The first trailers for AvP weren't all that great, yet it's a favorite of mine.  I'm willing to play wait-and-see.

I'll second THE NICE GUYS as an overlooked gem.

Didn't care for THE NICE GUYS, so for me that's another strike against this one.

The Last Boy Scout was fun, as were the first two Lethal Weapons. (Shane Black's original ending for Lethal Weapon 2 was stronger as well.)

But then against that, I really didn't care for the cheap humour of Iron Man 3. Felt it ruined the film actually.

So I feel like this could go either way. I did kind of wish they'd been able to tempt Arnold back for a cameo at least. It might have given it a bit more legitimacy as a follow up to the original movies. But then again seeing how the recent star was films and the Independence day sequel treated characters from the original films, maybe it's best Dutch sits this one out, and enjoys a nice safe retirement somewhere else.

I guess I'm kind of the opposite of some here... loved IRON MAN 3, despised THE LAST BOY SCOUT, wasn't enamored with THE NICE GUYS.  But I still enjoy the first two LETHAL WEAPON films.

Shane Black is not untalented, so THE PREDATOR could still be a lot of fun.  Just found the trailer to be surprisingly mediocre.

(And since Olivia Munn was mentioned, I'll just paraphrase an old, favorite Bob Dylan quote:  There ain't nothin' about her that I don't like!)
