I can see why they are doing this (reselling does suck for true fans), but it's still not perfect:

That`s how i used to purchase tickets! I for one would
welcome a return to that method! I used to get seats in
the first 3 or 4 rows in the good old days!

Recently, my daughter wanted to see the band Twenty-One Pilots.  (not my cup of tea, but hey, it was a birthday present).

You had to register online with their website for the presale, including a cell phone number.  When the presale started they texted you a code and then you had to use that code with Ticketmaster to buy your tickets, which were then sent to same phone...and only the phone.  You couldn't print the tickets you had to show up with *that phone* and show the barcode at the gate.

It was such a pain, that I really really hope it worked to deter the sclapers.

You always hear of concerts selling out in minutes. That tells me the demand is there for their shows, so why not just extend the tour and play more than one show in a city?

(It's been years since I went to a concert and never had difficulties getting a ticket so I really have no idea.)

Neil, that`s the point of this thread, the concerts are
sold out in minutes because the ticket companies sell
them to their own subsidiary re-sale companies before
the public get a chance.

But there must be a huge demand for tickets since people are willing to pay the huge premiums. If there were more supply of tickets (more shows) then the price would drop. Add extra shows and there will be more supply available.

I see your point, Neil, but the problem is then the artists and promoters are taking on additional risk that they won't be able to shift all the tickets and then they take a hit.

Of course, artists in recent years have started doing residencies or strings of shows at high profile venues, such as Prince doing 21 nights at the O2 (good grief, looking it up, I see it was more than a decade ago!).

If they can't sell all the tickets, then they have to lower the price in order to sell them all. There just seems to be a better method to solve this problem than by going back to either reverting to pre-internet days or government regulations.
