For example, Dr. Doom is smarter than Luke Cage.

What a curious example…

I'd wager Ming the Merciless may be smarter than Flash Gordon.

Superman used to be quite intelligent back in the day. Later, not so much so...

I never liked Superman as a super-scientist. Clark should be real-world high school valedictorian-smart, not "superhero comics scientist"-smart.

Right. Relatably average. Who does that son-of-a-bitch think he is, anyway?

I think that both Luthor and Brainiac are smarter than Superman. Ditto for the Ultra Humanite.

Mr. Byrne obviously has the best take on Doom vs Reed Richards. But I'm quite certain that Galactus is smarter than Reed. Maybe the Mad Thinker and Diablo too.

Hector Hammond is almost certainly smarter than Green Lantern.

Mr. Mind may be smarter than Captain Marvel.

I think Machinesmith is smarter than Captain America. Cap is wily and clever, but I don't think he's a genius.

I have reason to suspect that Dormammu is smarter than Dr. Strange.

If we get into teams, it gets a little tricky. Was Arthur Nagan of the Headmen smarter than Dr. Strange and the Defenders?

The Legion of Super Heroes is tough too. There are a lot of smart super villains, and a lot of smart Legionnaires. I recall the Heroes of Lallor facing a Legion team, with both Duplicate Boy and Evolvo Lad, who could make themselves future men, smarter than that Legion squad.

Both Thanos and Darkseid are super geniuses, and I'm not sure anyone matches up against either.

In the Golden Age, the Thinker and (sometimes) Per Degaton seemed to have super intelligence too.

Then we get to galactic entities, and whether they're villains or just drawn that way. The In-Betweener? The Living Tribunal? Mephisto? Pluto? Satan?

Some of them seem easy (e.g., I think the Rhino and the Sandman are smarter than the Hulk); some are pretty tough (e.g., Brainiac battled Brainiac 5 and the Legion of Super-Heroes.) Some of the presentations here are interesting... I'm curious who else people will suggest.

Adam, your preference is for a hero who lacks even a college-level education, never mind actual scientific capability. No wonder Trump succeeds. Was the more intelligent, Silver and Bronze-Age Superman too uppity for you?

You totally misread me, Brian. I said high-school valedictorian. Like, a guy at the top of his graduating class. Who presumably goes to college.

By the way, my politics are probably to the left of yours, I just don't feel like talking about them on a site about superhero comics.

I doubt it.

And I did not misread you. You could have written "college graduate" more easily than what appeared in your post. I understand that you wish to amend that now, but your presumptions about what we should presume you meant, but did not say, are odd to say the least.
