JB has a point. But I think there are few characters who've remained pretty consistent in their personalities and motivations:

Daredevil (since the Miller/Janson years)
Captain America (let's ignore the SECRET EMPIRE mini-series)
Hawkeye
Namor
Green Lantern (wasn't Hal always a bit of a hothead?)
Black Widow
Quicksilver
Flash (Wally West -- at least since the William Messner-Loebs run)
Nightwing
Black Lightning
Zatanna

I'm sure others will come to me later.

Hey Eric,
To your list of characters that JB seemed to have a special connection to, I would add Scott Summers. I could be wrong, but that's how it seemed to me.

Captain America for me too. I'm just going to ignore the recent stuff Marvel did with the character.

Who are the heroes that really resonate with you, and why?...

Fantastic Four.  Yes, ALL 4 of them.  I am referring to their depiction from the 60's, 70's & 80's mainly.  For me it is a bit personal, always wished I had a family like that growing up.  My family was fairly dysfunctional and unpredictable, but when I read the FF I felt the bond, the love and friendships, even when Ben & Johnny fought it seemed right and beautiful.

If I had the choice as a kid which comic book to leap inside of and never look back it would have been the FF.
