This would be second to the Wolverine v Sauron DPS, but a DPS seems to be cheating so....

This is a tough one, and I'm holding off on posting a pick until I can narrow my
decision down to a single panel. I appreciate those posters who are playing by
the rules and sharing one clear choice without slipping in little cheats.

last page of MAN OF STEEL or "The Punch"
from THE INCREDIBLE HULK.

I remember reading this issue as a kid and seeing that panel and just asked myself "How?"
I had no idea how John came up with that pose. I just about broke my pencils and tapped out

William, would you believe we share our favourite panel. I've always loved it - it shows a gracefulness of flight that I'm not sure I've seen anywhere else (and there's a beautiful juxtaposition when we next see Northstar crashing through the window IIRC).---------------

My first instinct was to pick something "cool" and/or "awesome," as there's no shortage of those. But then I really started thinking about something that often gets overlooked when discussing JB's work (maybe not here, but elsewhere); the sheer emotional weight of some of his panels.
Jim Petersman picked a great panel on page one of this thread.
Two more that spring to mind:
 I was dating a girl who was away at school when I read "Hero," and the story affected me so much that I conveyed it to her over the phone. I had to tell someone about it. I wish I could have shown her the panel above as I told her.  I remember that Smart Alec scene giving me a very uncomfortable feeling; like a knot in my stomach. The blurring of the images as Alec drifted away were perfect. And the fact that Alec knows why, but I/we never will, was one of those details that really drove it home. |

Looking back, so many of my favorite images are parts of an overall sequence, one panel leading to the next. Tied down to the idea of a single image, absent anything before or after, I'm going to go with...
