I love that Conan WHAT IF!  Unfortunately, it can't be reprinted by Marvel and I don't think the present license holders will ever reprint it either!  So, that leaves tracking down a back issue for $20 or something.  : (

Chaykin's SCORPION was amazing too!  As was Buckler's DEMON-HUNTER!  (When he worked in his own style, he was one of the best!)

Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams' Batman can hardly be called a "hidden" gem, but this one spooky BRAVE AND THE BOLD they did (I think the only one they did together) can get overlooked since it wasn't part of the BATMAN/DETECTIVE COMICS continuity.  I keep using the term "perfect comic book" but here's another one that deserves it!

I know I'm talking a little bit too much here, but this topic really has me excited!  Before I shut up, here are three more books I really love!  I wasn't previously a big fan of Mike Ploog, but when I came across his beautifully painted adaptation of TOM SAWYER, I was absolutely blown away!  Even at pocket book size on faded yellow paper, Steranko's p.i. tale CHANDLER (also known as RED TIDE) is clearly an amazing piece of work.  (I heard there was a larger edition printed at some point, but I've never seen it.  I know Steranko has been finetuning the work for a new release for years now, but who knows when that will see print.)  And Art Adams' CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON is just an exquisite piece of work.

I'm going to offer at random Ghost Rider #68.

***

Great shout, Brian. I bought this back in the day long before I collected any title regularly and it was my introduction to Ghost Rider. A perfect issue which, as you suggest, serves as both origin story and a self- contained tale in its own right.

It was highly praised at the time but it's been totally forgotten since -- Paul Chadwick's CONCRETE, originally published by Dark Horse, has become a hidden gem of a series.

My favourite Uncanny X-Men issue, barring the obvious Byrne/Cockrum/Smith/Romita Jr candidates. Such a terrifying story. The demon S'ym doing impossible things like snapping of of Wolverine's claws, planting it into Colossus's armoured body, Colossus's corpse stuck in a wall, the fate of Illyana...Chills down my spine as I write it.

This might be my favorite comic.
Good story, everything wrapped up nice and neat. Goes from
Gotham to the other side of the world, all in one issue.

This issue came out in 1994. Got this in college and 24 years later I
still have this comic somewhere I can easily grab it and thumb
through.

I thought Web of Spider-Man 34 was a cool one-shot story.
I really  enjoyed Marvel Two-in-One Annual #7 with the Thing and other heroes boxing the Champion!
Power Man and Iron Fist # 75. In my opinion Kerry Gammill's best work on the series and a cool story also.

I liked X-Men annual #5 for the FF crossover.

A very dated title.  When this comic was published, there was a commercial on TV for Vidal Sassoon shampoo with the tag line "Oo la la, Sassoon!"

Marvel will publish Conan again in 2019 for what I've heard.
Maybe those Conan What if--? will be republished then.

Small hidden gem for me would be the back up story of Doctor Strange #46 by Roger Stern and Michael Golden.
