That reminds me of something I read years ago--and I wish I could remember who to credit; it might've been right here at the JBF--about why it's so important to hyphenate Spider-Man's name.
The writer pointed out that "Spiderman" scans as if the accent falls on the first syllable, SPY-dur-min. That, in turn, sounded to the writer like a German-Jewish occupational surname (derived from medieval bug exterminators, or entomologists?).
I guess you had to be there.
