I liked Slott when he was writing SHE-HULK and THE THING. I got tired of his AMAZING SPIDER-MAN pretty quickly. By the time of the "Spider-Island" story I said "no, this is absurd, this is a Silver Age Superman story, why the hell is this in a Spider-Man title," and that was it.

I'll give it a shot. I miss the FF. Slott's writing isn't
always my cup of tea, but few writers are always hits.
There's bound to be some misses. His She-Hulk was
entertaining as is his Silver Surfer. I thought he was
fine on Amazing Spider-Man at the start. He just stayed
on waaaaaay too long.
I agree the poster is terrible. Your a comic book
publisher, have some self respect. If one industry should
rest on artwork instead of bad Photoshop it's comics.
Pichelli is a very good artist and not a bad storyteller.
My biggest question is about tone.
When Roy Thomas wrote it, the FF felt like a superhero
team.
When Claremont and Englehart wrote it, it felt like a
soap opera.
Hickman's run read like boring science fiction.
But reading Lee/Kirby, it always came off, to me, as a
science-adventure book.
IMO, only JB and Mark Waid made it feel like a science-
adventure book, and Waid played with character dynamics
differently than Lee/Kirby or JB.

New FF is better than none at all. But what Marvel really needs are new editors and writers. A game of musical chairs will not right their wrongs.

Occurs to me that one reason Ben Grimm might be a little grouchy is because most of the other superheroes (and even villains) can wear clothes off the rack. However, Ben's rocky hide probably shreds just about anything he puts on that isn't unstable molecules or tougher than canvas.
His feet are probably hell on wooden floors, too.

Celebrating Marvel relaunching its Fantastic Four title, the publisher has unveiled 20 variant covers it’ll debut throughout August:
Sadly, no celebration is complete without Kirby, Perez, JB, Simonson & Buscema covers. In an ideal situation, those would cause me to be excited.

Oh my gosh---I hate so many of those covers!
I can understand things like relaunching with a new #1 and a lot of other marketing things--their effectiveness is debatable at least. But I seriously cannot fathom who wants to buy an issue of IRON MAN or SPIDER-MAN or AVENGERS, etc. with defunct era versions of the FF for the covers. (Who in the world wants an issue of DEADPOOL with a Rob Liefeld version of the Medusa era of FF?!?)
And what is that Salvador Larroca PUNISHER #1?!? Is Valeria suddenly twice as old as Franklin? And that David Aja DR. STRANGE cover--five minutes to trace with a magic marker?
Why is this "Unrelated characters starring on the covers" idea a thing at Marvel? It's like buying an issue of NEWSWEEK with the latest TV GUIDE as the cover.

Yes, she's a teenager. That's the character as originally introduced in the Claremont/Larroca run. She claimed to be from the future, the daughter of Sue Richards and Doctor Doom, and went by the codename Marvel Girl. Later, she was retconned to be Reed and Sue's actual second child that Franklin "sent away" in order to save her from being miscarried, and the future Valeria claimed to be from was actually an alternate timeline where Sue had married a heroic Doom after Reed had died. Then there was some cosmic thing and Valeria reverted back to a fetus in a pregnant Sue. This time around she was able to be delivered with the help of Dr. Doom.
It's basically a bunch of Claremont tropes that later writers doubled down on.

Wow! I've bought a bunch of FFs over the last decade (but not regularly) and I wondered why Valeria was older. But almost every artist drew her and Franklin about the same height (age?).
I guess I should have asked--Why is Franklin suddenly three years old?
