Found this "review" of THE TRIAL OF GALACTUS on Amazon:

--------

Very good, right up until the part where....

By **** *******

....John Byrne injects *himself* into the actual storyline. The climax has creator Byrne actually drawing himself -- having conversations w/the FF, and even traveling with them to the trial of Reed Richards -- who's on trial for his saving of Galactus back when the FF and Avengers had him at Death's door. This TPB collects this generous act by Richards, as well as the death and rebirth of Terrax the Tamer, his battle against Dr. Doom and the Silver Surfer, and the abduction and trial of Richards, for whom Galactus and Eternity themselves testify.

-----------

My "injection" was, of course, due to Shooter's wretched "Assistant Editors Month", which was foisted upon us with, typically, no consideration of the stories it might be disrupting.

Context gets lost as the decades roll by.

I'm not perfect, but I contribute some posts to a private Facebook group occasionally, one devoted to comics.

I try and research things from decades ago. Same applies to the production of a film, wrestling, etc. Context is everything.

On a couple of occasions, I have had to scrap some ideas (I always write via Google Docs, and then copy and past on forums like this one). I had to scrap one post about an 80s UK comic because there just wasn't enough information out there to make an informed decision about some *opinions* I held.

It is frustrating how context gets lost over the decades.

Yes, you injected yourself into the FF story - as mandated by TPTB back then, so immediately, the product was adulterated.

But let's remember that Stan and Jack were in a handful of stories back in the 60s also. How DARE you follow in their footsteps, Mr. Byrne? Who would follow the lead of a couple of hacks like that?

Seems that some people have to justify themselves by any little pecks they can take at a might sequoia. "I criticized John Byre! Now I'm one of the cool kids! I MATTER!"

I used to think everyone should spend a year waiting tables for the perspective it lends when going out in public and being served by another person. Lately, I think everyone should have to take a year of journalism study so they can understand the difference between opinion and fact, historical and modern context, ethics, etc. I had completely forgotten about Assistant Editors Month and even now my eyes roll at the thought of it. Good on you, Robbie, for exercising restraint.

I take more offense at the idea that the book was "almost terminally late" than anything else. =)

Creators appearing in Marvel stories (and even in DC's comics) was kind of a tradition of sorts. It was part of the fun that is lacking these days in comics.

Assistant Editors' Month did lead to the Avengers appearing on Late Night with David Letterman. (In the comic, of course.)

And it was funny.

So, it wasn't 100% a bad thing.

JB, injecting yourself into that FF story was fun... I didn't mind it one bit.

Doesn't anyone remember when comic books were allowed to be FUN??

This Amazon reviewer sure doesn't!!!

JB, was the fight with Kolomaq in ALPHA FLIGHT planned before Assistant Editors Month was foisted?

ALPHA FLIGHT was only loosely plotted at that point, so I was able to come up with the Kolomaq story to fit the demands of Assistant Editors Month. The FF was more tightly plotted.

It was done without consideration of your storyline, JB - but as a reader I enjoyed seeing your interaction with the FF - and you managed to keep the stakes high plus we get a recap of Galactus's origin and Eternity ultimately explains why Galactus existence is necessary.
