I'm glad, for instance, that some boxing magazines haven't started publishing MMA (BOXING NEWS, BOXING MONTHLY and THE RING exclusively cover boxing). So boxing fans get their fix. It'd be absurd if they started devoting much space to MMA.
I hated it when certain wrestling publications started devoting pages to MMA. I like the quasi-sport of wrestling. I had no desire to read about MMA.
As I stated, why be all things to all people? I don't mind music magazines reviewing music DVDs, but I don't want them reviewing cinema releases or TV boxsets. Any space devoted to that is space not used for music news/reviews.
Interestingly, a lot of the "be all things to all people" magazines have gone bust. People aren't interested.
You can have generalist magazines, e.g. sci-fi. But, again, I used to buy a magazine called IMPACT. It covered action/martial arts movies exclusively. Years later, it started covering sci-fi and blockbusters. It eventually ceased publication. Maybe there's a lesson there.
