Thought this might be an appreciated heads-up for the forum... JB has mentioned this film many times, and I've long had interest in seeing this for myself... sadly, all that was available to rent or buy has been a poor pan & scan transfer on DVD.  As of yesterday, Shout! Factory has now come to the rescue with an official widescreen release.

I tried giving the DVD a try, a few years back, but the pan & scan was such an eyesore and headache to sit through, that I never finished the film.  I, for one, may be buying this Blu-ray sight unseen.

Here's the info, for any other takers!

Thanks for the heads up. I own a widescreen version on a British DVD, but this is one I think deserves the blu treatment.

Nice! I saw the movie first on a 20" black&white TV set in pan&scan... so, I'm eager for this!

There has been a British Blu-ray for awhile now. Big improvement over the DVD too.

I watched it for the first time a few years ago. I enjoyed it. In some respects it's very much dated but so is 2001: A Space Odyssey. Mostly with how they represent computer hardware. They both end up having interesting depictions of AI though.

A modern version of COLOSSUS would play more like Arthur C. Clarke's "Dial F for Frankenstein" -- which itself reads like a precursor to SkyNet.

Never seen it, but like many here have heard much about it from JB.  Added it to my queue on Amazon.  Thanks for the heads up, Shaun!

I also went searching for the original trailer on YouTube and stumbled upon this fun little "Trailers from Hell" entry, this one hosted by director John Landis:

Other than commenting on the dated technology, he's not as snarky as you might expect... he actually seems to really love the film (though he might reference some mild spoilers in his commentary, FYI).
