That's my BOSTON schedule, as noted. I don't know about Toronto, yet.

Ohh wow, John in Boston! Never been to an expo before but this being so close to my home, I will have to stop by and find the table!

I am thinking of the time I was at Pearl Harbor last year and there was this veteran who was there when Pearl Harbor was bombed, sitting at a table talking to people. He sits at that table regularly.  I was amazed to see him and thought about the horrific event he experienced. I had no idea what to ask him or say to him so I couldn't even approach the table. Just kind of stood and daydreamed about history a bit.

Seeing you, John would be very similar. Honestly no idea what I would say except the typical, "big fan of your work for the last 25 years." Perhaps finagle a picture. Certainly a life goal on the bucket list.

I've been checking out their website for info for days and days.

The Omnibus has a great cover!

The cover art for the hardcover is excellent!  Have we seen that yet? It's the first time for me.

It is killing me that my chances of making it to Boston are getting slimmer by the day.  It would be so cool to see this huge moment with JB and William Shatner.  And on top of everything, Boston is one of my favorite cities - I was just there a few weeks ago on a vacation I planned before the con was announced.  I walked the Back Bay, the North End, Brookline, and a few days in Cape Cod.

Yes, a great cover indeed:

Any additional details on the omnibus content at this point (it is a hard cover, which is fantastic)?

Presumably you all spot the inspiration for this cover. Wondering if I can find two of a like kind for Vols. 1 and 3.

PS -- I must have redone the cover copy about eight times! First there was a notation of Shatner's introduction, but then we found out he couldn't do it. Then we decided to make it the middle volume of three. Then we decided not to include that on the cover this time...

On and on! Thank Dog for PS Layers!!

JB: Presumably you all spot the inspiration for this cover.

**

I did not, at least not consciously. I'm simply captivated by the faces and body language, the sense of depth and the silhouettes.

But now, since you would presume I know it-- I have what sure seems like a good guess.

I feel like asking, "Is it what I think it is?"

Happily minus that toy banner!

Unfortunately, that cover happened at a time where everyone was in love with color holds -- even when they didn't really work. So on the old color format, Magenta, used here in the background, without the yellow to turn it red, becomes.... pink.

Hello all,

I live in Paris, France and was lucky to meet JB at Fred Manzano’s store 25 years ago when I was a teenager ( thank you again JB for agreeing to sketch one of my characters). I’m going to be visiting relatives in NYC this summer so I’m hoping I can make it to Boston ( and not just for the clam chowder ).

Mr Byrne, apologies in advance if you’ve already answered this ( I looked and couldn’t find the info on the forum). Now that it looks like you’ll be attending the con all 3 days ( Sunday being devoted to the panel & signing with Bill Shatner ) I wanted to ask if you’d be doing any signings on Friday afternoon & Sat and if those were to be considered “down time”? ( aka if you’d be autographing anything other than Star Trek related items on those 2 days; possibly with the purchase of the ST new visions Omnibus? )

Only asking because I’m not sure I can be there on Sunday and I’m trying to decide if flying overseas with my copy of IDW’s FF Artist Edition tucked in my suitcase makes any kind of sense.

Thank you in advance. I’m looking forward to saying hi again.

Thomas

I'll be flying into Boston on Friday morning, arriving around 11. After lunch I'll wander into the con and sign at my table for whatever time is left that day. Then I'll be at my table all day Saturday, except for panels and "events". I leave late afternoon on Sunday.

Thank you for letting me/us know, Mr Byrne. Very much appreciated.
Even better if you're also doing panels on Friday & Sat! ( That alone would be enough for me to justify the trip. )

Just to clarify: non Star Trek comics will also be welcome at your table for signing those days? ( Apologies, I think that was implied in your original answer but I want to make sure I'm getting this right before I throw that beast of an Artist edition in my suitcase )

And I definitely owe one to Bill Shatner for giving me/us the chance to see you again.

Regards.

Since I'm flying up to Boston, I can't take my folding portfolio/table, used for years to put me at eye level with the fans, and thus avoid "convention neck". In this post 9/11 world, I can't take it on a plane.

But Jim Warden is taking the train, so he can actually transport my table for me. Yay!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make such an arrangement for Toronto.

Bit of news for those planning to attend the Toronto con: you'll get to meet an actual comicbook character! My ol' bud Gary Cody will be joining us at the con.

I'll see you in both Boston and Toronto, John. I have to say, after reading your work for over thirty-five years and professionally reviewing it for the last six, it'll be a pleasure to meet you in person and shake your hand. I'm looking forward to both conventions. Good luck to you in Boston.
