If I ever tried to speak to Shatner, it would probably go down like Troy with LeVar Burton.

I'd be desperately asking if there is any chance I could get beamed up, please Admiral, these people are crazy down here!

Walter Koenig has been at a lot of comic cons over the years, just as a collector of big little books and stuff he'd be drawn to them. I'd like a signed 1967 Nichelle Nichols LP myself!

Wow, that is awesome. And your reluctance to divulge details has me all sorts of excited as to what that could potentially mean.

I've been fortunate enough to meet William Shatner a few times, but of course all too briefly since it's always been at conventions. I met George Takei for the first time last year, and Walter Koenig jeez...about 20 years ago now. I've seen Nichelle Nichols from a distance, but unfortunately never got to talk to her. Though I was lucky enough to meet Leonard Nimoy about 8 years ago, at what i think was his last ever UK appearance. Sadly I never ever got to meet Deforest Kelley or James Doohan before they passed.

But of course, none of this compares to having a proper sit down conversation with the good Captain himself. Very envious of you JB for having such a once in a lifetime opportunity. Ironically the last time I met him at a convention,(On my birthday no less!) I was very tempted indeed to ask William Shatner to autograph an issue of New Visions, but was unsure of how he'd take it, So I perhaps foolishly missed the opportunity. Thus I hope you got to have a good conversation about it to him, and hopefully some day we'll learn of what you spoke about. Oh to be a fly on the wall for that conversation!

Jason, i met Nichelle Nicholls about 25 years ago
signing her autobiography in WHSmiths in Birmingham, she
was lovely!

P.S. I had just returned to work after being off with a
broken wrist, when i found out about the signing, my
wrist suddenly couldn`t cope with work and i `needed`
more physio! That extra two weeks off also enabled me to
meet one of my favourite bands of the time at
Nottingham!

Haha Bill! That was some fortunate timing on your wrist flare up lol! ;)

Well done on getting to talk to the lovely lady herself. Book signings are a nice way to meet..

As the broken wrist was caused by the negligence of my
employer, i felt that i deserved to meet Miss Uhura!

...I was very tempted indeed to ask William Shatner to autograph an issue of New Visions, but was unsure of how he'd take it...

Quite well, I expect. One of the things that precipitated this call is that he's been signing copies of NEW VISIONS for a while.

Has he now? Oh! Now I wish I had. I'd sort of felt weird about asking someone to sign something that I thought they'd not been involved in the creative process for. But I suppose from a certain point of view he has. As I guess it would be some what more difficult, without his dynamic poses and facial expressions! It is is such a unique situation though. Oh well, live and learn!

More intriguing with each day...

Now wondering which of you initiated the call in the first place!

Picturing a kvelling John Byrne nervously pacing back and forth, full of excitement, trying to work up the nerve to make the call...
