Since Bill (ahem!) is, by his own admission, very difficult to draw, he'd not be likely to try to talk me into changing my rule.

For the record, I didn’t think Doug was correct.

"Since the Second Rule of commissions is No Likenesses.... "

...

"Dammit Jim..."

I knew that rule, but I thought he would be the one to break it.
I'll turn in my key now...

Look at that, man... John Byrne and "Star Trek" right along with William Shatner and "Star Trek." What in the world would you have thought in 1967 if you could have even had an inkling...??!?!

No wonder you're contemplating retiring. You made it!

••

It's sort of interesting to note how far this is from even my most imaginative conceptions of the late Sixties.

• There were (so far as I knew) no comic cons

• I had no hopes/dreams/plans of working in comics

• Especially not on those particular series

• The technology that made NEW VISIONS possible was beyond imagining

• That my name would be connected, however distantly, with STAR TREK!!!

It has, indeed, been a long road getting from there to here!

That's the plan, or at least part of it.

Also, IDW will be producing a special Omnibus Edition of selected NEW VISIONS issues, for signing purposes. That's Bill's idea. Apparently he really likes the series.

that off.

Interesting announcement! It must feel surreal, given what Mr Penn said above.

Awesome!!!  This is great news!  So wonderful to hear there will be an omnibus of some NEW VISIONS stories - it’s among JB’s best and a joy to read.

I hope William Shatner’s endorsement will bring in some new readers.  Even with the regular series coming to a close, there is so much to be discovered by reading the existing stories.  It’s so heartening to see him get involved in talking about NEW VISIONS.  I really want people to see what a unique project this is - there is nothing quite like it.  It can’t be compared to a ”photonovel” - it’s something that is all its own.

I doubt the studio would let someone use the actors’ images if they did not handle the material correctly.  Under JB, the characters acted as they did in the series, and the use of their work made it a kind of collaboration.
So glad you will be in Boston, JB - one of my favorite cities.  I’m taking my vacation there next month.

Congrats, JB. I hope I can get up there.

IDW may be way ahead of me on this but an introduction by William Shatner for the Omnibus certainly wouldn't hurt sales!

I already had plans to attend the Boston Con, and this will make it even more fun! JB -- do you know yet which day you will be appearing?

This con has an awesome vibe and a great lineup. On artists' row they have a good mix of awesome comic creators from my childhood and the young guns. Also, the Back To The Future cast will be there (including Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd), along with Paul Reubens, Billy Dee Williams, Jeff Goldblum, and members of the cast of The Princess Bride! The Boston con is big enough to attract some cool guests but not so big that you have to fight your way through the crowds.
