The forthcoming season of DOCTOR WHO is being marketed as Season 11.

But if we follow the train of thought that it's been around, hiatuses aside, since 1963, then this is Season 37.

I mean, it is the same show. True, it was off the air for 16 years, but to be honest, and I say this about high numbers in comics, Season 37 sounds better than Season 11.

I loved it when I picked up comics in high numbers, e.g. BATMAN #309 (1979). It didn't necessarily mean a quality story, but having 309 issues under your belt was impressive. I am pleased that ACTION COMICS will reach 1,000 soon.

But I do understand the argument that because DR WHO was off the air from 1989-2005, this is a new entity. It's canonical, but a new entity in a certain sense. So maybe Season 11 is right. That said, and marketing can be important, I'd certainly see the logic in a magazine having a tagline such as, "Now In Its 37th Season!"

I could be wrong. I'm welcome to be told so. What do you all think?

Shh. I've ripped my DVDs of the show, and I keep the numbering going from the old series so I don't get Eccleston and Tennant episodes mixed with Hartnell episodes.

I'm OK with it being 'Season 11'. It's a different series.
I'm not a WILL AND GRACE fan, but I understand NBC is treating that as 'the 'next season' carrying from whatever number they had in the original run. I prefer a new numbering when there's been a gap.

I'm okay with it being season 11, really. Mainly because of the large gap between the original and the revival. And I say a small thanks that they haven't relaunched with a new Series One with each new Doctor.

THE X-FILES has picked up the numbering from the previous seasons.

Barry Allen really had 246 issues of his own comic.
EDIT: Barry went back and fixed the timeline...er, typo...

246. He started in #105, not #205. :-)

I've mentioned elsewhere that the 21st century incarnation of the show needs a better name than 'Nu Who'. Reading this thread makes me think 'Volume 2' might be a better title.
