Watched the first ep on Netflix, it was promising and
the FX were good.I have not read the book, but know
the general plot from reading previews, but...it`s a
good job i did because a LOT of the dialogue is
delivered in a hard to understand mumble. I have
decent hearing and a decent surround system.James
Purefoy was easy to understand, but Joel Kinnaman`s
delivery was very hard to decipher, as was a few other
characters.I will watch the next episode with
subtitles! It made me wonder if Purefoy has a theater
background and is used to projecting his voice? I have
read a lot of complaints about BBC dramas having the
same problem. Is it poor diction/projection? Poor sound
mixing/design?

It seems that there's been a trend toward thinking that mumbling gives a show more 'realism'...because people mumble in real life.
If you ask me, that's a bunch of buuhsihhfm..

With HD sound you`d think speech would be pretty clear!
Strange how the adverts you can here every word!
I notice it on films on bluray/dvd too,the speech is
often way down in the mix and to hear it you have to
crank the volume up, which makes the score and sound
effects deafening! This is even with a surround system
with the centre speaker set to max.
