Brian Michael Bendis on his new projects for DC:

Some excerpts:

- "Bendis will contribute to Action Comics #1000 on April 18, after which DC will release his 6-issue miniseries Man of Steel starting May 30."

- "After Man of Steel's publication, Bendis will take over writing duties on the monthly titles Supeman and Action Comics. The Superman monthly will relaunch with a new issue #1 on July 11, while Action Comics picks up with issue #1001 on July 25, and each will have a different approach and tone."

- "It's some of the biggest status quo changes to Superman literally since Crisis."

- (Bendis direct quote): "I'd already announced I had dedicated this year to creating as many new things as I could," Bendis points out, "so when publishers like DC came to me, they were very interested in what those new things were and what they could do to be in business with them. So my itch to create new things and DC's itch for me to come over here kind of mirrored and matched, and here we are!"

In case you were wondering... no, our host or his work with this character was not mentioned in any way.

Newsarama noted the repeat use of MAN OF STEEL and draws some parallels to JB's work on Superman.

I'll pass. ACTION 1000 is likely to end my run as a comic book reader, going out on a milestone issue. The hobby just isn't as gratifying as it used to be.

"Increased focus" on Clark Kent and the Daily Planet.
Pretty much 'The Adventures of Clark Kent'.
So, basically, he's writing what SMALLVILLE would have been if they'd actually let Clark  OUT of Smallville?

——

The last two seasons of SMALLVILLE were basically set in Metropolis with multiple characters inexplicably commuting from Smallville. So the name would still make sense? So they could keep using those sets?

This suggests Crisis is the biggest change to Superman in the last 30 years.

But...

Wasn't Superman dying, the titles going on hiatus and then coming back with multiple Supermen, Superman coming back with a mullet and then marrying Lois a bigger change than Crisis? At least arguably a bigger change?

I don't know, perhaps he'll change his gender.
Or maybe something more radical: the emblem on his chest is a letter "S" and stands for "Superman".

Good phrasing, if you think about it.
